Lacking enthusiasm

Has anyone got any OSF scene pictures of the good ole days when the cars were a laugh to own and not an investment, if another person says to me pity its not standard one more time I swear I'll run them over with the bloody thing. Rant over 😀

True mate, the dynamic of it all has shifted since we started OSF back in 2003/2004

Prices are ridiculous, parts are thin on the ground and expensive, and simply buying an OSF is now out of reach for so many people unless you buy something cheap (that's a laugh in itself) that needs loads doing.

Got loads of pics on my home back from back in the early days, camping over at Classic Ford show etc, Stella consumption, banter and laughs.

Bumper cars at midnight was always a laugh and so were most of the old faces. Do you still own the Blue Mex Colin?

Good times

Some of the older pictures will still be on here if you search back through the threads. The problem though is that back then we mostly used photobucket, that leaves dead links when the owner of the photo deletes it from Photobucket (who themselves caused issues with their cash grab)

One day we wanted to have a fang through the pine forests on the other side of the Blue Mountains. They held rallies there which was what had given us the idea. But even though secluded it only takes one grouch to report you to the police so the logic was if you made the car look like a rally car from a distance everyone would think regular rallying was going on in the forest and no one report you. (Chav logic 101). So the night before with nothing but materials at hand in sheds and garages we created this! The coloured stripes were shop window trimmings from a photographic company I worked for at the time and authentically complete with cardboard roll cage made from centre rolls of fabric bolts from mums sewing circle. Totally destroyed the paint and the real Rally Pack stripes when I took them off which I didn't put back for over 3 decades after that and almost 2  before it was ever all white and shiny again. Most of the photos I took that day were on slides rather than negative film but a friend took this one that can still be viewed without a projector. While it looks lame upon close inspection it could fool from a distance as we pulled into a servo behind a friend in another Escort who was queuing for drinks and snacks and we rushed up to the counter in our overalls made to look like racing suits and the Italian lady behind the counter signalled us to the front of the queue shouting with an accent "I must serve them first to help them win the race!". My friend at the back of the queue who had gotten there first was so annoyed he tried to tell the shop lady and the rest in line it wasn't real it was all just fake but they told him to shut up. Boy was he pissed for hours after that! LOL

Strapping a huge Cibie to the metal between the front apron vents, ruining the stripes and destroying the paint for decades to come for a weekend forest fang I think qualifies as a laugh rather than in investment I think! 😀

But of course RP2000 sill exists today with stripes!

To be fair I did buy my Twincam at that point which was treated a bit better so I couldn't afford to keep both looking smart at the time. But the MK2 was my every day car for a couple of decades, its been driven to Melbourne 15 times, Brisbane 3 times and Adelaide twice and countless camping, caving and field trips for university deep into the bush. For over a decade it had a grey rear guard from my not so neat home rust repairs so it was a bit of a sorry sight for quite some time but it still has its original engine and even the head and camshaft is what it came out of the factory with in 1979 which still amazes based on how it was treated over the years. I remember one time when I went back to university to do post-grad I parked it in a carpark on campus that was referred to as Trivett, so named after the biggest BMW dealer in Sydney at the time as all the rich Chinese students would all park their new BMWs and Mercedes there. One day walking back to my car I saw a key line going across bonnet after bonnet of showroom German stuff and I came up to my old bomb with is grey guard and the line stopped at the BMW beside it and continued on the one after. Being a poor student paid off that day! I had a lot of fun in that car, those memories that come back whenever I drive it cant have a value put on them. I am more attached to that car now than the Twincam that everyone seems to prefer. Because it just sat there and went to the odd show it doesnt hold that many memories of fun times for me like the other that I treated like crap LOL

I know what you mean, I wish I still had my ropey old MK2 1600 Sport from donkeys years back

I was 17, it was rough, hand sprayed satin black from rattle cans, lowered on Forest arches covering 8" banded Lotus steels, hand painted in white. a mental car my mates called the beast, had so much fun in that car, if it got a dent or a scratch I just sorted it on the road with more filler and rattle cans of satin black - good times!!

In contrast, I wouldn't leave my Mex anywhere now, through fear of some toe rag either trying to nick it or key it.

My first car "Betsie" was a beige mk2 1300L and i did about 80k over the 3 years that i owned and loved it, spending all my apprentice wages on modding it.  I went everywhere in Betsie and loved every minute of it racing all the other lads around in their Nova SR's, Astra GTE's and Mini 1275's and even in about 1993 trying to take on the first YB powered Mk2 I'd ever seen, proper fast and made me look like I had selected reverse as it went away from me lol. Sadly the rust took hold so shoving plastic bags into the A posts to stop water from splashing all over the girlfriends feet and the 1300 on a twin choke didn't cut it anymore so I bit the bullet and bought a XR3, great car but no more pretending that I was Ari Vatanen. The XR lasted about 9 months before I couldn't take anymore and bought my first RS2000 "ACX388V" but still not the same feel as "Betsie the 1300"

Part of the charm for me with the mk2 RS i own currently is that 22 years ago they were so cheap and that and people wondered what the hell I was doing buying the piece of shit as Cossies were the fashion but I wanted to relive my youth. Sadly the outlaw/underdog feeling I had has long gone and I cant afford to drive it like I stole it anymore. 😁

Ha SNAP! my first car was a Beige MK2 Popular - 2 dr 1300 - PUF 214R, I still have the metal number plate with the raised letters on somewhere in the garage, I bolted on all the crap I could buy from AutoMex in Mitcham like you do, 1/4 bumpers RS spoilers etc ., from then moved on to the aforementioned 'Beast' then a white Harrier, then a yellow MK1 Mex Replica etc...

Mates all had Fiesta's, Nova's, Metro's etc, and there's me in my Beige MK2 throwing it around roundabouts not giving a f**k HAHAHA

Still got photo's somewhere, keep saying I'll scan them and get them posted, but never do 🤣

Good times!

No way I had a beige 2 door mk2 as well lol 1300L, XRL750T, cool little car. £500.

My first Classic Ford was a Cortina MK1, 4 door 1500 Deluxe.  EAN967D. Think I paid £750.

Paid £500 for this in 87 as a 17 year old.

Went through 3 engines, 2 gearboxes and a hedge. Absolutely ragged the pants off it for 2 years

It had forest arches and got painted after the hedge, with a new short block from Bracknell Autosport.

Even had a tow bar on it for my motocross bike 😁

Sold it for £1200 to buy a 2L S Capri.

Beige MK2's are the way to go hahahah, I bought mine from an old dear in Croydon for £250, she'd wrapped the front grill in tin foil to help it warm up in the winter 🤦‍♂️
