We received the enquiry below and rather than give them my own unique take (somewhere closer to my house please! ) I thought it best to put their questions to the forum for more rounded feedback. So, any comments / feedback on their questions please? As one of our most influential clubs, we are reaching out to ask your thoughts on what format you would most like to see Classic Ford Show in for 2022. If you would like to come back to us regarding the below and any suggestions you might have for the event in 2022, we can then use this feedback to construct a plan for what you would most like to see moving forward. For example… Would you like the event to stay at Mallory Park? If not at Mallory Park, what part of the country would you prefer to see the event held? Is it important to you to have a live action aspect at the event – whether this be a drag strip or a track? Would you be happy with a static event? What is the most important feature at the event for you? We would love to hear your feedback and ideas over the next couple of weeks to allow us to plan for 2022. BaileyMex Posted October 7, 2021 Report Share Posted October 7, 2021 As you know, I used to go to all of the big summer shows when organising the stands etc for OSF - CF Show, Retro Car Show, Ford Fair etc... Sometimes we had over 200 cars on our stand!! But they all started to get a bit 'samey' if that is a word..... but from around 2006-2008 they slowly started becoming the Performance Blue Focus ST show, rows and rows of cars you were seeing at your local supermarket. Couple that with the 3-4 hour drive each way and they lost their appeal, selfishly if it were closer I'd probably go again, but I get why they host it in the middle of the UK to make it viable for all corners of the UK. Plus it seemed like the whole thing has lost its initial reasoning, for getting Classic Ford owners together, it seemed like it was more about how much money they could make. I don't have the perfect answer, but keep it classic!! perhaps don't invite the Brand New Focus ST brigade who's cars are on finance, and limit it to pre 90's cars only, that way it would keep it a smaller affair and more in line with the title of the show CLASSIC Ford Show. Not bothered about having a live event there such as drag racing or track time, or a Funfair like atmosphere with rides and £15 burgers! just a relaxed chilled venue that you could chill with loads of like minded classic Ford nuts and chat to and admire the cars. For those that want Focus & Fiestas ST's and the like, there is Ford Fair and others for more modern cars Why not have two smaller proper classic events? one in the north and one in the south? DT36 Posted October 7, 2021 Report Share Posted October 7, 2021 I quite liked the set up for Pure Ford at Castle Combe this year. Good mix of cars, good track and drift sessions and good stalls. Although Ford Fair was ok-ish, the food was way over priced and any views of the track action was almost non existent. Stalls were nearly all for modern Ford's. Although I have an old MK2 Escort as well as a Performance Blue Mondeo ST, its the old school stuff, jumble stalls and track/drag strip I like to watch. Oh, with a burger and brew in my hand. Don't take my Escort to any of the big shows shows, as its a bit of a trek from where I live in Wales. To that end, anywhere central that I can book a hotel close by usually does us, so we make a bit of a weekend break of it. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Munch Posted October 7, 2021 Report Share Posted October 7, 2021 Out of Santa Pod and Mallory Park, I preferred Santa pod. I did quite enjoy the 'live action' part of the event at both sites, as it gives an alternative to just looking at cars and if you wish to get involved you can, that said I like nothing more than mooching around a field all day talking about cars! I drive mine with fingers always crossed anyway......😁 Cheers I'm not knocking more modern (retro) Fords, I've had them, only a few years back sold our ST220 pre facelift in performance blue, it pulled like a train after the re-map and new exhaust...... but..... I'd never dream of showing it at a Classic Ford show, I'd feel a bit silly 🤣.
