rs2000 poke about pre resto

Recommended Posts

so my project car an 1980 rs2000 ,has problems as yesterday i had a poke about and found that both recent front wings will have to come off as both sides the splash shields are gonna need renewed  , also whoever fitted the wings did a poor job as the inner wing rail on the passenger side is all but non existant now ive removed all the filler and crap from it  ,also needs new  inner door hinge A posts , the joys of resto eh , no doubt il need new wings too as getting the old ones off is sure to knacker them , im in no hurry as itl be 2 yrs till the cars completely done  and resprayed, more parts on order , a wallet emptying experience, youve gotta love old cars

Inners are like hens teeth, you do see people advertising them as genuine inners however they aren’t and you need an one we o outer rings to fix them to the backing plate

Outers are easy to get as just go to someone like GS escorts. You have another option which is to remove the glass and get your own ones re silvered, lots of companies doing It, I used Ashford chroming

attached are photos of genuine inners and outers so you can see the difference and a set of re chromed original inners which are hopefully the first photos, as you can see they have the three lugs on the rim to fix them to the ring that fixes them to the backing plate

last 4 photos should be genuine new inner and out headlights, front and back view so you can see the difference

Its a  shame you did not see/buy the ones on Ebay.de, I could not believe my eyes, a set of 4 genuine for a R.H.D. MK2 RS2000,  complete with chrome rings brand new in the box €340.00 +€65.00 postage to UK, first set of new ones I have seen in years, all I need now is to find the right car to fit them on.

I just got the Stanley blade out and ran round them for a while, soaked them in thinner and then prized the glass off. Just need patience

Mine has been ten years in the making and final ready for some abuse but has a twist as she is running a highly modified zetec St170 engine

man thats stunning mate ,bet your proud of that one,  is that a new fusebox or refurbed  cant seem to find a new one anywhere apart from australia and at 200 odd quid im no paying that lol

Not a new one. Remove your own one, leave it soaking in a bucket of coke overnight and then give it a wipe, new gasket off eBay and then that’s it like new again. :-))))

so ive been fiddling about under the bonnet and got the old girl finnaly to start and run ,starter motor is very noisy but got her going ,i used an old lawnmower petrol tank under the bonnet as the main fuel line and tank filters are full of crud , there are no brakes on the car as there either seized or rubbers have perished,as the brake fluid pot is empty ,she has sat 8 yrs in a barn covered up so i wasnt surprised ,the clutch release bearing is also noisy  , it was then time to see if it would engage first gear  which it did thankfully and i edged her out the garage for the first time that shes moved under her own power , the engine sounds good and didnt smoke on startup or when idling ,another plus point , so here she is in a bit of a state  awaiting me to start the long resto ,which will be around march this year , still buying  parts at the moment  but got most major  bits now , lower bulkhead, upper bulkhead, heater bubble ,front panel ,inner wings, complete new floor , outer and inner,A door  posts, chassis rails , outer sills , and many more parts
