GrahamU Posted October 27, 2024 Report Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) I remember someone saying that to be an OSF it needs to have metal bumpers, so I am picking this up on Wednesday to add to my collection Is it old school Ford enough ? Edited October 27, 2024 by GrahamU 2 2
heartyonionsoup Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 Might be wrong but I reckon anything pre-90s with those chunky metal bumpers counts as osf. Yours looks well tidy from the pic.
Xp197777 Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 It’s metal bumpers ,40 years old and looks fine ,saw it on the bay you had a bargain 👍
PeteRS8084 Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 Pretty close plate to my 1984 xr3i that I bought back from Germany duty free, A819JVN
Miniliteman Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 From the "What is Old Skool Ford" thread: "Every one on the site will be pleased to hear from you whether you drive an Anglia, Cortina, early Granada, Capri, Escort or early Fiesta as long as its old and was made by Ford......Our simple rule of thumb is that the model of car (rather than the owners specific car) must have been in production before 1980, ergo a mk3 capri from 1987 qualifies but a mk2 Fiesta from 1983 does not. Therefore on this site, whilst we acknowledge them as classic cars, we don't class RST's, SafFs, Cossie 3 doors as Old Skool. You are however more than welcome to enjoy the site " 1
Xp197777 Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 It kind of feels like we should look into this rule and maybe update it a little If a car that’s 44 years old doesn’t qualify as OSF then eventually we’re not gonna have any left ,the mk3 was first produced in 1980 nearly 45 years ago , surely it would be better to change the rule to a 40year cut off just a suggestion
Miniliteman Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 For me OSF is exactly what it is now. There always will be lots of OSFords in existince. Just a case of finding their owners and pointing them towards this place like the club stands at shows. If you extend the OSF "definition" to 80's cars then eventually they will take over and the current population that's on here will stay away. Seen exactly that with other clubs over here. 1
Xp197777 Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 I take your points but it means that eventually OSF will disappear unless we let some slightly younger cars in to attract slightly younger blood in to keep it going for the next generation and that would be a shame to lose such a great site.
BaileyMex Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 I personally like the above RS1600i, and RS Turbo's, Cossies etc, but when we first started OSF back in 2003 there were loads of other 'Ford' forums, Turbosport, Alcoholics Anonymous etc, but not sure how many are left now due to social media clubs. True, I don't want OSF flooded with Focus RS's and Fiesta ST's all on finance and modern stuff, but if the odd 'Retro' Ford comes up I wont loose sleep over it. 2 1
Xp197777 Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 Agreed completely I don’t wanna see focuses they’re not classics but Rs1600i mk3’s early 80 are 40+ years old.
Xp197777 Posted October 29, 2024 Report Posted October 29, 2024 There are only 72 Xr3is and few more RSs left so I don’t think we’ll be flooded 🤞 1
