142 on the GPS in my escort before running out of road... wasnt a motorway or a particuarly smooth road ill add, and run out of bottle when the windcreen wipers lifted of the windscreen and the front end went awfully light.... was plenty left in it too with a 3.54 diff... the only thing scarier was trying to stop the C**T in a hurry after my friend in the passenger seat wasnt terribly impressed either

but tbh i agree with Vista, v8s are a bit too big and heavy for escorts as a general rule, though the LS engine above is very light for what it is...and 700-750hp is fairly simple to acheive from these engines afaik
screaming 4 pots for escorts.... big V8s for capris
-
fooking loving that capri looks hard as nails

Youre right..... The amount of filler that thing had in it, I couldve saved a few quid on the paint
HaHa... i see you negelcted to mention the type of chaps that bought it from you
-
i always thought u just put too much hardner in the filler and thats why it was all that colour
-

My 17 year old son has been trying to get a trainee/apprenticeship position as a mechanic (vehicle service technician is the correct term these days ) for over a year now ... he has applied for a dozen apprenticeships and not been successful (because he doesn't have the A-C grades required ) and he has contacted over 50 garages to see if they have any positions available but there is NOTHING
He has now done his first year at college and got his level 1 diploma and is now on his 2nd year to get level 2 but it's really disheartening Has the industry just died or is it just down here on the Surrey/Hampshire border ?
Few folks i know have had the same problems around here (croydon/surrey), truth is smaller garages are few and far between now and are reluctant to take on trainees with the economy etc, and the Major dealerships/Service stations have so many applications they can cherry pick those with the best qualifications.

ill have to get better pics tomorrow, if they are no good the guy i got them from is gonna get them through his front window, paid a fortune for these, as a complete kit
ive seen plenty of sets of these hillman/holbay etc carbs on the bay on xflow and pinto manifolds, to be fair i think some people just dont know the difference. they do work to a fashion but not well, Escpecially at high revs. they take alot of faffing about to get to run and they are never perfect and will never return the performance of a "normal" set of tooters, due to the way they vent, the castelled spacer replaces the normal vent hole by the left venturi
This is my albeit limited understanding of them...
Just had a quick look at ur resto, and the one blurry photo showing the tooters they do look like Hillman/Holbay ones on a brighter note your car looks fantastic, credit to you
-
Do u have a hole in the carbs by the left venturi?. Sounds like u might have the
Hillman type 40s, bit more agg to setup. Ask grumpy in his room he'll know
-
Citric Acid
-
Having to go back 3 times afterwards to get the car to run somewhere near right...
And being told
'watch what I do( adjusting twin 40's)so you don't keep coming back' !!!!
Excuses like ' the carbs aren't balanced'
Aint that the point of going to a rolling Road, to get the carbs setup, balanced and running right?.... sounds like whoever was doing it didnt have a clue.
RE Rolling road day at WPE, anyone whos been down there will know about the space issues, but ill see what the moany old sod says when i see him....Luv ya really Grumps haha X
-
i don't do laughs just moan
Good old MOANtune...
