  1. I have Marky4's ticket on its way to me so do I bring the Mk5 Cortina Estate or the Mk1 Mexico???? The Mex is less than perfect and in need of total restoration so will look a bit tatty next to some of the pristine metal that'll be going. Rust bubbles etc. However it could be its last road trip before the stripdown begins The 'Tina is not perfect with a few dents but is presentable. Open to suggestions. Here's a couple of recent pics of both.
  2. Not sure yet. Seems a shame to mess with it being so original. When I get the new engine in the Mex I may take the Weber 40's and stick them on for a bit more grunt. Gonna stick new shocks on all round this weekend to stiffen the boat-like ride a bit. Other than that, not entirely sure what to do with it yet. It's georgeous to drive tho'
  3. Couldn't resist this. I had one back in 1990. This one has only 45k from new and amazingly solid. Original Ford radio which is virtually useless as LW/MW only but looks good. Original sills, wings etc. Had to fit new stem seals and decoked it at the same time. I've yet to find any evidence of welding, though I guess there must be some. I need a NSR door glass and ideally a new bonnet if anyone has either. The bonnet is not rotten but has a few dents from garage storage. Could beat them out I guess.
  4. Cheers Darren Will give him a call. Ta
  5. Does anyone know where I can get a new embossed AVO plate made to match the OE part. Years back I had access to equipment to make these type of things, but no more. Anyone sourced a company or individual that can do this? Cheers
  6. Thanks. It should look even better one day.
  7. Here are some pics of my newest toy and one of the non blue oval BL type badge As found in a barn after a wash. Paint was as flat as a pancake. The mickey mouse mudflaps were the firt thing to go. Lots of good plans to get the rally stuff out, and a standard interior back. Someone has mullered the wiring, so a new loom is on its way. The lights, roll cage and fibreglass bonnet are due to go. The twin 40's need a good tune up and need to source a good 1600 OHV engine to replace the 2.2 that's currently in there. The other car currently on the road isn't a Ford but the Sprint actually goes faster than the Escort at the moment. Choctastic !

Blah, blah, blah. Same ol' shit, differrent name. It won't make any difference I'm sure. History has proved that. Oh so cynical.................yup.
  9. Having owned nearly every old Ford over the years, including a Mk1 Escort Estate, I'd never had a Mexico. Most recently I have had Triumph Stags and Dolomite Sprints. One Sprint currently for sale and one awaiting resto. Purely by chance, I was made aware of a Mex and couldn't resist, so I'm now the proud owner of this little beauty. Now it's no oil painting and needs lots of TLC, but it passed it's MOT yesterday and is now (free) taxed for 12 months. Structurally it is pretty sound. Chassis legs look original and rust free. The plan is to drive it thru the summer, de-rally it and return it to a more original spec. Then over the winter, strip it and restore it. Watch this space.
