Is a MK1 Escort 1100 Gearbox the same as the 1300 gearbox?

As above really as i put a 1300HC crossflow lump in me MK1 Escort and the gearbox blew the other day (first gear)

 

I just wondered does the 1300 gearbox have stronger parts or something as i don't think it should have broken the way it did its snapped half the teeth off of the first gear cog

 

Anyone know of any differences between the two boxes?

You need to fit a gt box really , don't think there's much in it between the 1100 & 1300.

 

Ideally get a mk2 1600 gt box out of the sport or ghia same size but stronger.

 

I used to change the 1300 box every couple of months on mine when i was young and silly untill i put a 1600 one in.
