What will happen to number plates?

What will happen to number plates when we get past 2009? I have been looking at plates on new cars and there is no room to fit another number in the space. They can't make the numbers smaller because all of the technology set up to read number plates will be fit for the skip! Anyone know what will happen?

they will go 10 and 60 then after that they will go 20 and 70 and so on

I see, what will they do when it gets to the middle of the year though, I mean, they have 07, then 57, then 08 etc but will that not mean an extra digit after 2009??

it will go 10, 60, 11, 61..........
