As above guys just someone has said that the type 3 gearbox with removable bellhousing as fitted to cortina 1600e's and capri 1600GT's with the pushrod engines in is stronger??

He said i will break the mk2 sport box again can anyone confirm which is the stronger gearbox the MK2 Sport Box or the Type 3 Capri 1600GT/Cortina MK2 1600E gearbox??

Cheers Guys

My type 3 covered 143'000 miles behind a 1600 pinto and was half empty of oil.

it then sat in a garage for 9 years.

it then had 150 bhp pinto in front of it with a scintered clutch plate and an LSD behind it and has withstood serious doughnut abuse for 3 years..

im still waiting for it to go bang.

now id call that a good gearbox!

technicaly i havent a clue but i have stripped a ghia box with my 1360xflow lol while it was in middle of a burnout.

ummm was that a 1300 ghia gearbox though??

Crossflow type box with integral bellhousing are all the same strength wise. They're not very strong at all. (Sport/ghia's have slightly better ratios I believe). I once broke the perfectly healthy box in my old 1300 mk2 at the lights. I dumped the clutch at 5k at the lights and it went BANG!!

Either type of box with the bolt on bellhousing is much stronger and have good ratios

are you just running a standard 1600 ?

Pretty much mate apart from a stage 2 head ported and polished to the max and uprated valve springs

no chance of breaking it

You have bought it so try it ?

The Mexico single rail is a better box, but then you have mods etc to do to make it fit.

I used to go through 1300 boxes once a month in my 1st mk1 (i used to do burnouts and drift it around any roundabouts) in my youth, once i fitted a mk2 1600 sport box i never needed to touch it again even after having fitted a 1760 with 1300 pistons, kent cam, big head etc etc.

I have told you the same thing on 4 different threads yet you still start a new one asking the same thing :D:thumbsup:

It will be fine and easy to replace or re-build if it isn't
