Retro-gone. Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 to invest in a leccy ign for the capper, im havin to clean or replace points and set ign timing every 3-400 miles cos she starts misfiring on tickover and losing power , once ive redone it she flies and ticks over like a sewing machine . so without getting too expensive what should i go for? and where from?
Slammed Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 i heard that aldon and h&h ignition are FTW and all the people i know who have either of those setups rate it well

Aldon Ignitor, Tony. It's what I had in Christine. Did 12000 miles without issue and coped happily with 7000RPM. Good thing about the Aldon is that it all fits in the same place that your points do so no holes to drill and if it ever does pack in, you simply whip it out and put the points back until you can get a replacement. The only thing that gives away the fact its there is two wires running out of the dizzy instead of one so it'll keep your engine bay looking like it should. I can come help you fit it if needs be. £80 odd quid and cheaper from Burton Power than buying direct from Aldon.
escort new boy Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 my dad has an aldon ignitor which he used for next to know miles and brought a h&h as the aldon was making the car miss fire but this was due to him not running a 12v live feed. Could ask him if he wishes to part with it if you like?
Retro-gone. Posted June 13, 2009 Author Report Posted June 13, 2009 yeah see how much he wants. is it for the pinto bosch dizzy?

Takeshi Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 to invest in a leccy ign for the capper, im havin to clean or replace points and set ign timing every 3-400 miles cos she starts misfiring on tickover and losing power , once ive redone it she flies and ticks over like a sewing machine .so without getting too expensive what should i go for? and where from? Surely there is something wrong there... I done 6 or 7K in my 1.6 Capri without touching the points or ignition, and it was still running sweet when I sold it.
Retro-gone. Posted June 13, 2009 Author Report Posted June 13, 2009 i know but i cant put my finger on it, theres no wear in the dizzy.
Takeshi Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 You tried new parts? Are the points burning out, or getting burnt? If so I'd try a new condensor first
Conor Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 i know but i cant put my finger on it, theres no wear in the dizzy. Check whether the coil is a 12V or 9V one. If its a 12V one and you've not bypassed the ballast resistor so its still running on 9V, it'll be drawing too much current which will burn out the points.
rsdaz Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 i have H&H on my escort at the moment and its ok but im changing to bestek very soon under the advise of wayne at w.p.e and every 1 else iv spoken to who has it and rates it very highly
Retro-gone. Posted June 14, 2009 Author Report Posted June 14, 2009 no rush, ive still got 4 sets of nos bosch points left and 2 condensers lol
