Smudger105e Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Why do CD's come in square plastic boxes And DVD's come in oblong boxes?
5hane Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 squares are easy to store imagin storing circles !!! Madness !!!
Copey Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Why do CD's come in square plastic boxes And DVD's come in oblong boxes? CDs as said, easier storage and DVDs becuase they where to replace VHS so they made a DVD case about the same size just thinner so people wouldnt need to buy new storage units for them (at a guess)
Smudger105e Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 and I get called a spammer Hehehe, it was wifey's question. And I don't call you a spammer... do I?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 30, 2009 Admin Report Posted June 30, 2009 Do you know what .... I have never thought about that before And the answer seems sensible
SmokeEm Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 The deep answer is that designers realised that they fooked up when doing CD's coz they didn't fit in the same place as cassettes did hence a rival 'minidisc' was released and that is why CD's took so long to become commonplace - they were not going to make that mistake with DVD
Smudger105e Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 and why is it an orange, a hat but an hotel?
Stu_B Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I never realised it was an hotel?! I've always said a hotel, I guess it's to do with pronouncing the H or not *Edit* Found this The form an for the indefinite article is used before a spoken vowel sound, regardless of how the written word is spelt. If you say 'an otel' when speaking (which is now often regarded as distinctly old-fashioned), then it may be appropriate for you to write 'an hotel'; but most people say 'hotel' with a sounded 'h', and should write 'a hotel'.
