scootlife Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Hi all. Been having issues with near side rear wheel. Has been getting hot. Noticed wheel cylinder weeping very slightly so changed it anyway. Wheel still getting warm and noticed handbrake isn't releasing fully when applied. If you yank the bar behind back plate it's fine. It's got mk2 rs 9 inch dums on it. Is there a way to adjust it all? Looks like a self adjuster on it and don't want my wheel melting on way down to Classic Ford Show !!!!
banarama Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 1st take drum off,brakeshoes out clean the metal bar with the adjuster up with wre brush, as its proberly partly seized.especially the bit where the pin goes through, wd 40 it ,work it back and forth till its totally free.then use spray grease re assemble ajust shoes out to drum so they are just slight rubbing. try that 1st mate 1

crapichris Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 I concur. Had the same issue with my Capris over the years. There's only one real cure - you need to get that drum off and work some wd40 into the adjuster arm while wiggling it back and forth. When it frees up put some copper grease around the joint to stop it doing it again (well at least for the next few weeks!!) . Ps don't leave it parked up for long periods with the handbrake on - recipe for sticking. 1
scootlife Posted May 27, 2014 Author Report Posted May 27, 2014 Normally parked up with handbrake off, but it's often left for long periods. Have just received a package with all new springs etc so gonna give it a good clean and grease up the lever at back of drum as described.
scootlife Posted May 27, 2014 Author Report Posted May 27, 2014 Bar was seriously gunked up on pivot and was practically stuck so stripped cleaned and greased up and we seem to be ok now fingers crossed. New springs fitted at same time too . Just need to go for a good burn and see how we get on! Cheers for the advice guys, never looked at that as had left shoes in whilst changing wheel cylinder, and seeing as it was moving it never even came up on my radar LOL.
