Biggest wheels I can get away with ?

I'm looking to get some 3 piece split rims (anything considered WHY) 4 x 108 ford fitment , but what's the biggest and widest wheel I can get away with without it looking silly and without rolling arches . Standard mk2 escort ????

If you going split rim fella opens up lots of choice as you can determine offset and dish of wheel to get clearance needed, think max is 7" on rear of escort but dont quote me on that as i dont own one lol. Cortina boys can get 8 under rears!
