Granada Starting Problem

Hi all, got a 1984 mk2 ghia x granada and it has trouble starting, sometimes it's starts without and problems, other times it won't start at all as in lights come on the dash but the starter won't even crank, and other times it goes to start but sounds like it has a flat battery and struggles to turn over, I have changed the stater motor today and it's still doing the same thing, it's driving me mad what it can be. Any ideas???
