New member: Ring gear problems

Hi everyone. I own a Westfield SEfitted with a 1700 Crossflow. Recently hit a problem with the ring-gear coming off the flywheel. I’ve never known that to happen before and wondered if anyone else has suffered the same? It uses an inertia starter.... wonder if that might be the root cause and if consider swapping to a pre-engaged type? Only owned the car 4-months and seems I need the engine out.... 🙄

if the flywheel has been lightened alot it can cause this

pre engaged means fresh ring gear or flywheel and starter
