  16. Hello, I just thought I would let everyone know about the good but abit crap Ford type F gearbox, as when it all went wrong in my mk2 capri I found no information about this box and converted to a type E another 4 speed found In cortina's capri's etc and as I had no idea about the splines and everything else involved in converting over it was abit of a nighmare. First off the type F is an external rods box with 3 gear links, 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th and reverse these connect to 3 rods which then connect to your gear stick assembly this equals to pretty crap and loud gear changes it all can be adjusted to help prevent this but it doesnt make too much diffence and compared to the normal railed boxes its worth changing for nicer shifts. But the reason I changed to a type e was because In mid driving all the rods fell of and lost all the bits and bobs and car was stuck in 2nd so I converted as I didnt have and couldnt buy these bits again. The type F Input shaft is 23 splines same as type 9 with a short end. output shaft is 10 splines big teeth has its own propshaft no other I have found has 10 splines. Bell housing is different, starter motor is mounted higher and where it bolts to the gearbox its very different to most other gearboxes and will not interchange. So to do the conversion (type E) I had to change, Clutch plate, 20 splines Will need propshaft off capri with type e originally , I split my old one with a cortina one and luckly they were the same splines but old centre bearing is too big so I need the other capri one as its a two piece prop and needs bolting to the car body. The input shaft that goes into the crank is the same sized bearing however the length is too long so I had to grind down very carefully and smooth. Remove the engine plate between the engine and bellhousing as they are different starter motor wont fit bolt dont line up etc. Lengthen the reverse light cable. So all in all abit of a nightmare but this is because they only put this gearbox in 2.0 mk2 capri's as far as I know. Seems a shame to throw away as its quite a heavy duty gearbox I would of though it would take some good power but the gear changes let it down. If its all abit hazy please let me know its my first post and could quite easily tell you but typing is abit different ha ha oh and how do you upload pictures as Im abit unsure how to do that, Thanks Retrofordmrt ( Liam)
  17. Hi, I was recomended by a friend on here to join and get some pictures up of the cars Ive had, I like having the old fords just feels like everything else is either abit boring or just too expensive for somthing that isnt very good anyway but I still respect and have an intrest in most things old not too fussed if its fast or not as my girlfriends 206 GTI will nail my 2.0 capri but the "coolness" is completly different haha
