  1. Hi From my "handle" Strato's Bernard..... yes you guessed it I have a Hawk Strato's which is in Chardonnet Blue which was driven to victory on the 1979 Monte Carlo by Bernard Darniche (amongst many other victories)..... my car is a tribute to that win. I built the car from the base kit in 1989 and it started life with a 2000cc Lancia Beta engine, then an Alfa 3000 V6 12V, then Alfa 3000 V6 24V and now sitting in the engine bay is an Alfa 3700 24V on throttle bodies which gives about 380BHP, LSD etc etc and the car weighs in at around 920kgs. I use the car mainly for sprints and hillclimbs, but I have taken part in the Chatsworth Rally shows and Cornbury Rally show (before the organisers went bust !) I also have A Hawk Stratos Road car (Alfa 3000 V6 12V), Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV (105 Coupe which is rally prepared), Austin Healey 3000, Lancia Fulvia Zagato (restoration project)....... and a Mk1 Ford Cortina GT 2 door which is rally prepared. I do like italian cars, however all my early cars were Ford.... 4 x Mk1 Cortina's, 2 x Mk2 Cortina, 2 x Mk2 Escorts............ from that you can gather that I am and "old fart !" So the question is about the Cortina GT (which is set up for forest rallying and has a 1500 pre crossflow engine) The gearing is quite low for the type of event I wish to do.... 1st, 2nd and 3rd are "close" and flat out in 4th equates to 85mph..... it has a 2000E box (the gears are straight cut) and LSD..... unfortunately without stripping them down I don't know the gear ratio's for either ! What Bolt on gearbox would give me 5 gears and "wider" ratio's.......... Cheers Phil Southwell Nottingham 58 and growing old fast !
