Thanks Vista, Well i explained my situation a while ago to a bloke who claimed to be wise about these things and he thought it was likely to be a 4.1:1 diff, I've also done a bit of research and it seems that the smaller engined escorts had the 4.1 diff. I understand the tyre size doesnt dictate the diff ratio but it has to be taken into consideration when calculating it doesnt it? what gear calc programme do you use? many thanks for your help

Hi All, My mk2 escort is a fantastic car in every way, but its not the fastest thing in the world. I used it as my daily driver for a while which was great fun but i did find the 4000rpm at 70mph a little tedious, the tyres i were on were 165/60/13 so i think this means i have a 4.1:1 diff ratio? (4 speed box) Im now thinking about changing my tyres to 175/50/13, which i think im correct in saying would worsen my current screaming crossflow issue, would changing my diff to a 3.9:1 ratio help this? has anyone got this setup? Any help or comments would be truly appreciated. Ta muchly James

Hi Mike, thanks! well i've fitted it but it just doesnt look as good as all the cars i've seen on here, i've put two smaller bolts through the wheel arch flare (if that makes sence) and then two self tapper through the chin spoiler behind the number plate. i admit it was a bit of a mismatch of screws and bolts as i was so desperate to fit it before going to a show i just used whatever i could find! Is there an ideal way of fitting it? i thought about using rivnuts but that might make it sit a little away from the body work? Many thanks for the replies thanks SmokEm!

Hi All, I've been looking through the posts on OSF for a while (and I've seen some incredible cars and learnt a lot!) but this is my first post. My car is a 1978 four door escort in (faded) signal orange with a black vinyl roof. At the moment its got a 1300 xflow, 1.5" drop all round and vented discs. Nothing particularly exciting i admit but its put plenty of smiles on my face and i wouldn't trade him for anything! Just a quick question.. I've got a mexico chin spoiler that I've fitted but i was wandering if anyone had any good tips of how to fit them properly? If the next few weeks go well he might get a zetec and a 5-speed!
