Ok hi all again,
Well it's Friday and finally I have some time to myself to sit down, throw on Breaking Bad, boil the kettle for some tea and strain my eyes as I attempt to type this on a so called smart phone.
Just to echo some points from my introduction thread.
I'm not a typical Old School Ford type but I grew up with them as a strong influence especially in my early, toddler and shitting myself years but more on that in a moment or two depending on how many tangents I fly off at.
I'm a car enthusiast and have loved cars as long as I remember and a Japanese lover, especially Toyota and Nissan. My shed currently has one Skyline in several hundred pieces while I have another currently one the road. (Close tangent)
My father is why I'm here.
My OSF friend is how I am here (this site came highly recommended and I hope ye fine folk can lend me an ear but more importantly, experience and opinions)
I am the eldest of four, and come from a humble, rural small farming background but now I am off traveling around Europe.Said Europe, I mainly mean Germany earning money to live.
My father is a quite bloke, very reserved but when he speaks, he makes sure to say something full of honest and straight advice. He has been an absolute gent and always helped me out while building and tinkering with cars over in my shed which he converted from a hay barn many moons ago for me.
So what's the point to all this?
He is and always has been a Ford fanatic, it's in his blood but you would never be able to tell, I could barely tell.
His first few cars were MK1 Fiestas, one he had for over a decade so I was told. His best friend is the local self thought mechanic and they grew up with Cortinas and Escorts, building and rallying.
I have never asked as to why he moved away from Fords but he began buying more, well dull cars as his family grew, since scrapping his last MK1 Fiesta back in around 1992-1994 (I was five ish) he has had a total of three cars, each as reliable but boring as the next.Kadett, Starlet and a Corolla.
I was recently home and he had his Corgi model cars out.Several OSF.Alot of Cortinas but every Escort imaginable. One he was very proud yet saddened by.
A Corgi of a 1972 MK1 Escort 2dr.Which was his favourite but had it's roof cut off at some stage throughout the decades,so it was now a convertible (it was stood on a one stage)
So I took down the serial number and several searches on ebay later and I found the exact one, put a nonsensical max bid on it but won it for £20.I wasn't home for when it arrived but reports came in that he smiled or something.
Therefore I've decided if a toy model gets a smile, I want to see what happens when I show up with the real thing.
I can't stress how much this man deserves it, words would only fail . I'd imagine it would be a dream come true.
So I'm looking to buy or build a factory fresh, standard looking 2dr mk1 Escort.
I'll probably go for a 1.3 or 1.6, stock, a spec list isn't the goal. The goal is to let him sit into a car that makes it almost feel like a time machine.
My only problem..... I know absolutely nothing about them bar how cool they are and how expensive.
Anyone want to help me out?
In need of links and advice flung at my face.
Thanks for your time and comments welcome.
