Hi, sorry to drag up such an old post, but I have been looking for my old Mex and have now found it!!
I'm not sure if it is still relevant to anyone on here, but I can fill out a bit of it's history.
I owned the car for about 3 years in the late 80's. I bought it in Derby for £1500, standard except for a 2.1 pinto on the standard carb. It was a bit rough round the edges, so I decided to give it a bit of TLC. I had a bit of welding done (being a Ford, you know I mean loads..!) both sides of the boot (tank and spare wheel wells) repair sections to both front footwells, windscreen out and repair section in the flitch (?) panel, two new/pattern wings and a couple of second hand doors... plus loads of other bits and bobs. After that It had a complete respray in diamond white, which I'm assuming is what that is in the pic at the top of the thread. The engine was rebuilt by me, with a rebore, new pistons, shells, bearing, bottom end lightened and balanced etc... throughout and a Piper 285 cam to finish it. All this lot came to over a grand, which, in the late 80's was a lot of money!! The car looked mint and drove fantastic, seeing off my mate in his Cavalier 130 and just about hanging on to my mates 2.8i Capri!!
Sadly it was stolen on new years eve and found in a field a couple of days later... They had jumped all over the roof and marked just about every panel, which was gutting. The insurance wrote it off (even though it was mechanically fine, due to my financial situation I took the payout) the car went of to a salvage company in Birmingham where I thought it would be crushed. A couple of months later a mate of mine bought a Cossie rep, which, bizzarely had my rebuilt engine in, I recognised it by the painted blue block and the single replaced coreplug under the exhaust manifold!!
Anyway, sorry for the ramble on my first post, but I loved that car and it has been nice to reminisce, hopefully it has also provided some info for whoever has the car now.
Cheers,
Nick
