  1. If you take a look at the up and coming changes, it seems like this a step forward to their 'green and electric' future. The 8 point rule has never been enforced until now, it seems to me they have let us have our fun and spend millions over the years adding money to the economy....but now, with the pressure from Brussels for manufacturers to go electric by 2040 they are slowly culling the hobby.
  2. What you need to remember is they are questioning the identity of each individual vehicle. You won't be able to pass your car off as VHI and be MOT and VED exempt if it's an RS replica or you've got a 1.6 crossflow or pinto where a 1.1 or 1.3 once lived. How they will police all this is yet to be seen, but there has already been a sizeable amount of classic ford owners contacted regarding an inspection of their cars....escort owners especially as it's a popular car to cut big chunks of metal out of to 4 link and tunnel etc. the onus will be on ourselves as of next year to self certify if our cars are modified or not. Driving around in a cossy escort with ££££ spent on it and declaring it as standard, avoiding paying for an mot and tax is to much of a gamble for me!
  3. I have many times....and my mk1 escort will be going through the Iva test next year. Don't get me wrong....I don't really want to lose my reg plate either, but that's all it is....a plate with some numbers and letters....it's still the car you want to build at the end of the day....we just need to think a bit more before taking an angle grinder to it!
  4. Q plates have always had a stigma attached to them, normally people see them and mutter words like 'ringer' or 'cut n shut' but now the Q registrations issued would stand for 'quality'! Having to go through an Iva test to prove the car has been built well and safe can only be a good thing in my eyes.
  5. As per title....any condition considered paul 07903 574441
  6. Has anyone tried the new dash binnacles available on eBay? Just wanted to know the quality and if they fit ok
  7. Fookin £45000!....have you seen the pics?!! The quarter panel to rear panel seams have been filled over, its poly bushed and on lowering blocks....no engine bay or interior pics!.....the blokes Fookin pist!!!
  8. Unfortunately this is where we are being priced out of our hobby as people selling there cars/parts are now saying "well one sold on eBay for this much the other week"!!
  9. I now prices are going through the roof but....really! https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-FORD-ESCORT-MEXICO-MK1-IN-DAYTONA-/112612914372?
  10. My biggest issue is you could have a rover v8 mk1 escort built and declared pre 88 which is mot and tax exempt and a fresh build of identical nature built recently which needs biva, mot and tax!
  11. It's ok for you people....I've just whacked my bulkhead out to put an eight banger in!! ?

  21. Well....after putting my back out for the umpteenth time trying to lift an Essex v6 gearbox and constantly being taunted by the rover eight banger in the corner of my garage....I've bit the bullet and ditched the Essex!! Pedal box has been modified and moved over three inches....I've reworked the throttle pedal and mocked up a mk3 capri steering column in place. Once I get these few jobs completed and get my adapter plate made for my new/old/different! gearbox, I can get the engine and box in place then start on the bulkhead and tunnel!
  22. I knew it was last year....but realised I hadn't paid a respect on here so I did. My old man died 5 years ago....but still pay my respects to him now! Like 'Big Ron'....he was a legend to me too!!
  23. R.I.P Big Ron
  24. What has alpha's got to do with it?!
  25. The repairs to the inner wings wouldn't be a problem for me to do....the wing mounting rails are still intact all the way along so I've got a good reference point when I'm lining the new wing rails up for height. The strut top corrosion is confined to just above the under wing cup so I wouldn't need to put a full top plate on. I still intend to paint the engine bay satin black or a semi gloss black so I wouldn't have to spend quite as much time filling and smoothing.
