Be careful with the longer one - Not sure what the engine bay is like in a Mk1 cortina but on my Mk2 escort I found that that a 4" inlet manifold (approx) pushed the carbs too near to the brake master cylinder. Consequently I fitted a shorter item (can't remeber the length but 3" seems about right). Everything now fits but there is no space for filters (just 16mm trumpets). Dan
  2. Dave, get yourself a multimeter that's capable of measuring current. Most cheap ones will handle 10 amps with an in-built fuse: Switch off the ignition and disconnect the positive battery terminal. Remove all of the fuses from the car's fuse box Switch off the interior light just to make sure this doesn't affect any readings when you reconnect the battery. With the multimeter in 'current mode (10A)', connect the battery positive lead to one side of the meter. Connect the other side of the meter directly to the battery positive terminal. At this point you should have a 0amp reading. If you don't, then you've got a short circuit somewhere and it's a case of tracing through the wiring and disconnecting various circuits. Assuming you do have a reading of 0 amps, start re-inserting the fuses back into the fuse box, noting the current readings. If the reading jumps after inserting one particular fuse, then the liklehood is that you've found the faulty circuit (to avoid error, make sure any auxiliary circuits such as an alarm are disconnected). Once you've found the circuit at fault, it's a case of halving the circuit down to find where the fault lies. Hope that doesn't sound too complicated. Dan
