Whoaa. Glad I found this site. Brings back memories. In 1971 I traded in a trusty Ford Escort Mk1 1300GT Reg: UCR 955H I had bought from Grays of Guildford and bought a Superspeed Ford Escort Reg: KAN 423K from a garage in Ley Street Ilford Essex called Youngs. It was red and I wish I still had a picture of it. I was only 20 at the time and lived in Alton Hampshire. It was by some margin the fastest Escort for miles and beat just about anything else on the road. I remember driving up to Santa Pod Drag Raceway on the M1 with a load of mates in the back when a Norton Commando overtook us at 100mph. I put my foot down and to the amazement of the Norton rider ( and just about everyone else) I left them all for standing. I remember getting the speedo up to 150mph in a FORD ESCORT..... Happy Days.. I had gearbox problems after about 18 months and changed it for a Triumph TR6 Reg: MHO 9L from Tourist Trophy Garage in Farnham Surrey. I don't know what happened to the Escort but I found that the TR6 was still road registered back in 2014... I wonder if there are any Superspeed Escorts still in existence... love to see one. It was so basic compared to modern cars but went like stink. I I had my first experience in that car near Frensahm Ponds in Surrey. Today I drive a 10 year old Golf R32 bought since new . Golf R does nothing for me.. but I 'd love to have a drive in that old Ford Superspeed just to remind of days gone by . One of the best fun cars I ever owned...
