  1. I had to smile, found the above (link now removed) sitting in the 'Inbox'. The mind boggles, but to answer your question, yes 11,000 is quite arduous, noisy, cold and bumpy with dreadful brakes. Not sure why I do it, but for memory of my grandfather. It was his. 2020's COVID made for less, more like 5,000. Anyway, thanks gents, I was hoping there was a de facto swap for a V6. Something recognised by those of you. like me with my LR, using your Ford as a 'daily'. Appears not.
  2. Without consensus, this thread reads much as many engine threads. As many engines as there are answers. Some clearly not suitable, others not Ford. Back in the day, a collection of Ford blokes could be expected to yell “V6 mate”, and they’d be right. The V6 was something to be proud of. Ford blokes should be caught yelling ‘We’ve got two each, like wot he just said, you want the Ford XYZ mate’ Seems not, whatever the engine choice, it’s not Ford. Which saddens me, I fancy a Ford in there. I have a problem with a Jap, French or German ‘thing’ in a Land rover. That’s like putting a Toyota lump in a 1600E. I’d cry. But needs must… Thank you gents for all you time and goodwill.
  3. I'm a mechanical whore, I'll go with anything. Doesn't have to be a V6. Anything 'talky' and economical that'll mate to my V6 adaptor , and readily available. It'll have O2 / knock / MAP / MAF etc etc, much as I hate it, that'll be what works for fuel. Don't suppose too many of you have driven a Series Land rover. Believe me, you'd be daft to run much over lorry speeds even if you've the grunt to do it! Without brown trousers, an Essex / Cologne V6 is all the power required. It's there so that going up hills you've not a conga forming behind you. They have charm but stopping and steering is not why you own one. I do 9-11,000 a year in mine with an gas-conversion. That's a £3000 fuel-bill. I'm looking to get that lower. The V6 was borrowed for everything back in the day. Those V6 would be put in anything that had rubber at each corner. Including LRs. Today the Moggy Minor world swap-in Fiat engines for some reason, I was hoping the 'Ford world' now held a de facto swap you're all doing. Rest assured I don't have a beard.
  4. Thanks, for your help. I shoud have said, I'd like to keep this petrol. I'm pretty sure Diesel will be legislated off the road soon enough. Is a Granny Scorpio all that economical? Is it a hidden jewel? I can't imagine it's good for much more than 30mpg where it lives now, then again, I know little about Ford iron. I had ideas that my existing V6 adaptor was still good for late engines. Putting the question backwards, what modern Ford lump mates to a mid 70s Capri or simialr V6 box now, becuase that's the question I suppose I'm really asking. Or is thsi a daft proposal right form the off, in which case sorry I've wasted your time and goodwill. Bottom line is, economy. Where a given engine is doing 40-45mpg now. I'm expecting to lose 5mpg in a heavy LR.
  5. Please forgive me, but I'm not sure where else to find the kind of knowledge-base other than somewhere like here. I'm a Land rover owner, and you might be aware Ford V6 lumps used to get thrown into 1960/70s era Land rovers. This would been about the time rusty Grannies and Capris could be found easily. Early to mid 80s? There was a kit to enable the LR box to mate to a V6. See below. Here's the thing, I understand if you've a Classic Grannie or similar you might put in a Zetec or something? If you where running something as heavy as one of those Granada Stretch Limo jobbies what modern Ford would you have in there? I'm looking for a modern Ford engine, the sort of thing you might put in stretch Granny today. 'cos if you see my thinking, that'll be good for an LR. Lazy, and economical where it lives now, so it'll cope with a new home. Anyone?
