Hi all, belated Happy New Year.
So, my 105E is running a Silver top Zetec 1.8, from I think a '92 Orion, and what I believe is the original 105E fuel tank connected to a swirl pot. Now it turns out I don't think the tank has ever been cleaned out either so it's full of s**t and not long ago the fuel system sucked a load of it up, it spluttered and died and the HP fuel pump makes a horrible whining noise.
The screen filter before the LP pump is clogged with sludge so I bypassed the LP pump and swirl pot all together, but it still only runs for a few seconds with the noisy pump so I am assuming I'll be replacing both pumps and both filters and cleaning out or replacing the pipes and tank.
- If I replace the tank, I like the idea of getting one of these made with baffles / foam / surge pot and ditching the swirl pot bits - Anyone done this successfully on a 105E?
- If I decide not to straight away, any recommendations for LP pump (and filter) and HP pump (and filter)? I'd like to keep everything E10 friendly if possible as I am informed the engine itself should be (anyone know to the contrary)
- As there isn't an aftermarket one fitted now, I'm assuming the pressure regulator on the fuel rail hasn't been messed with, but is this something I can easily check?
Priority for now is the HP pump and filter so at least I can check there are no issues further downstream of that.
Any other nuggets of wisdom from anyone on this, gladly received.
