  1. Hi, I just joined the forum hoping to get information on the Kent Crossflow 1600 and Ford T9. I bought a 1978 Triumph Spitfire a few years ago to restore. I bought a T9 5 speed gearbox from a Merkur XR4Ti. I bought a gear-set from BGH Geartech and I'm in the process of putting that back together. I also bought a Ford Kent Crossflow 1600 that was being used in a home made tractor. I believe it was an industrial engine before that. I'm in the process of trying to fit the engine and gearbox in the Spitfire before committing to an engine rebuild. The setup needs a rear bowl sump, but unfortunately this engine has a front bowl sump. I've pretty much given up on trying to find a rear bowl sump, and I'm going to try and cut this one up and weld it back together as a rear bowl. My first question is does anyone know the purpose of the rear baffle (in shallow part of sump)? I don't see anything different about the rear of the engine that explains its purpose. Thanks, Gene
