  1. I decided not to do it. I'm going to go with 380bhp through the rear wheels and have some fun trying to keep it in a straight line. I got the shell at the weekend, and sent it straight to the body shop for them to do the last bit of welding and get it painted for me. I should have a nice clean painted shell back by the end of next week. All I need to do now is find a crossmember, some front suspension, steering rack, wheels, gearbox, axle, ....... Oh, and retrim my interior and make it all fit. I can feel a lot of long sleepless nights coming soon.
  2. Yeh I can see you have to be careful, but if you are that stooped to post up videos of yourself breaking the law, then you take the risk, i suppose..... I've taken loads of video of me having fun and occasionally "breaking the law", but I never put anything up without editing out number plates, and faces first. There are many stupid people who put up video of themselves, and to be honest, they deserve whatever they get. The problem arises when other people stand around and video you and put the video up without any thought about getting you in trouble. I had a mate who got banned for 18 months due to a video that someone else took of him doing some drag racing on a deserted industrial estate.
  3. Ok, let me make a few things clear. I've not decided if I am going rwd or 4wd. I like both for different reasons. I basically wanted to know if it was possible, which obviously it is. The budget doesn't matter, I've got a lot of favours I can call in to get fabrication work and painting done. I just fancied something different. I love mk1's, and have fancied one for ages, I was just never in the position to get one until now. Now, I understand people love rwd, in an out and out drag race, with two cars of equal power and torque one using rwd and one using 4wd, we all know the rwd will win. However, I've gone head to head against cars of equal power on the open road and had a great time leaving the rwd in my dust, 4wd cornering ability can't be overlooked.
  4. Cheers, will do.
  5. Ok, I've got the usual 4wd centre transfer box, which is effectively a diff. Is it possible to get a diff that you can select rwd and 4wd from within the car?
  6. Alarms are only any good if they people pay attention to them when they go off and most don't. I like the idea of the siren in the car, but with the way things are going today, the little scrote who steals the car would probably sue you for hearing damage!!!! Most car theft is by opportunistic little shits who only steal unalarmed cars, however, there are lots of organised theives who don't care what alarm you have since they usually know just how to either bypass them, cut them out quickly, or disarm them using factory overrides. There are lots of tracking devices around, but again a good car thief will know where they are located, and how to strip them out. This device sounds good since it can be placed anywhere you the owner want to put it, and it doesn't have to be hard wired, making it impossible to damage it with a voltage spike to the electrics. When my car gets to be nearly complete, I'll be having a toad alarm fitted somewhere very inaccessible, with sirens in the car and a tracking device of this style also. If you've spent the time and money on your car, you want to make sure that it is either no stolen, or if it is, you get it back in one piece.
  7. Where is the best place to get them, and how much are they
  8. Where is the best place to get mk1 bubble arches, metal not fiberglass. Any idea on price?
  9. Thanks for the replies, I'd love to see a pic if anyone has one. It's not that I'm defo going to go 4x4, but since I've already got everything I need, it seems a shame not to. Some people say don't do it, some say do. I'm still not sure yet. I like rwd for the sheer fun factor, but I like 4wd for the amazing cornering ability. If I can keep the weight down below the escort cossie, then it should be an animal. I had the engine tuned to give me a 0-60 in under 4 and a top of 160ish, so in a lighter car with same transmission system it should be quicker.
  10. Can it be done? I've got a mk1 Escort shell, and a broken Escort Cosworth. Can I fit the 4wd setup into my mk1? Glyn
