If you have the ability to do a compression test then you can change the headgasket. Believe in yourself. From what you said it does sound like the headgasket, and if its a small crossflow in there it'll cost you less than £20 to do including new antifreeze so its worth a try. Get a Haynes manual. Theres a chap on ebay who sells good quality pattern gaskets, you can get a complete top end kit for £15, think he trades as gaskets for classics. It'll take you a while on your first attempt but stick with it, when you do another it'll be a couple of hours of a job. So all is not lost then.... The car has been kicking me in the Nuts since i got it with little niggly running issues and now this! Really i just want to confirm what the issue is before i chuck more cash at it! Failing that I could always Bin the Engine (Yes its a diddy 1.1 X flow) and fit Pedals.

PM Replied to. Not making any decisions as yet what to do.... going to have it diagnosed properly 1st. If its dead and costly to repair will bung it up forsale as a whole car or as parts. Pity not to fix it as the shell is fairly solid bar one poorly welded in rear arch thats split its welds. Will have to see.

Unfortunately dont really have the time to try and work it out... It was a daily driver and with a new job starting on 2nd Jan i think Money for repairs will have to go on getting a car to get to and from work. Might give it 1 last chance with a local Mechanic to get the full low down but if its expensive then think thats that - car was only £300 quid in the 1st place.... where is the line drawn to stop chucking money at it

Serious lack of power, RAC man said it was electrical issue with the Dizzy so replaced that, same issue still Checked the Compression this morning. Got low Comp on number 3 and high Pressure running through coolent hoses Replacing Head Gaskets / Engines is beyond my ability's so looks like we might just have to weigh the car in as scrap.

Well Seeing as its a mates MK1 Fiesta and he has a Ford KA Show car that he takes to shows... When its a Ford Event Ive begged and Borrowed the MK1 Fiesta Next time ill say hello, only car i recognized was Toms MK2 XE as i went with my mate Shaun to collect a manifold off him a few weeks back.

Dont know anyone from the site so kept myself to myself but thought it was a really good turn out for the time of year and seeing as it was So cold! We just about managed to get there in Project-'S'-hitbox but with a dodgy Distributor we could only get up hills at about 5mph, which was pretty funny with 20 cars queuing behind us

Whooo it all worked out Picked up car no trouble, also a set of MK2 escort rs2k alloys (or Capri alloys) to go on... its proper ratty but has MOT untill June/July 08. Most of the car has been rattle canned and the 2 rear arches have been repalced but are a bit poop. Interior is good and the engine has no smoke or funny noises from it. Sat at 80 - 90ph most of the way back down from Sutton in Ashby to Pinner with no issues. All i suspect it does need is a new Alternator as the Warning light comes on.
