Im in the process of fitting a type9 box to my escort. Bought a new propshaft which only goes into the tailshaft about an inch+half and then needs to be pushed in with a rubber mallet. Ive checked both the tailshaft and input shaft of the prop and I cant see any problems with these. When the prop is disconnected I can select all gears, when the prop is fitted I cant select any gears... Any ideas??

Had to shortened the battery tray by 11cm and remove the support strut underneath the tray. Then had to re-enforce the tray. Its all in the pictures in above link!! Any questions drop me a PM

Call Neil @ 105.Speed.com (remove the dot in the middle... word filter???), tell him Iain with the escort sent you Can thoroughly recommend their exhausts. The first exhaust ive been able to fit and forget (tried ashley and peter lloyd - they never fitted properly and kept blown exhaust gaskets.) Having issues posting images at the moment will try again later...

Hate to rain on your parade... but if you shorten the bellhousing I think that the input shaft will be long??

Managed to get the proP fitted with the help of a rubber mallet. It rotates but I can't select gears now I'm hoping that it will fix itself once I can get the engine to turn over and rotate the clutch

Sorry cant make it been having issues fitting my type 9 box going to be spending the day under the car sulking instead!!

Has anyone had any issues fitting a propshaft in to a type 9 box? I can't get the input shaft into the tailhousing far enough. It only seems to go in about 1.5 inches. Its a brand new RS 2000 propshaft. It looks it needs to go in another inch or 2 so that it'll bolt up to the diff. Its in a mk1 escort with an RS 2000 alloy bellhousing if it makes any difference.

Which month/year did you cover this??? I seem to remember that there was a niffty diagram with dimensions for moving the gear stick hole in the transmission tunnel Cheers
