Hi,
I registered on this forum about 15 years ago but have never posted anything!
I own a standard Mk1 Escort Estate in Evergreen Metallic that I bought new in January 1973, although it was actually manufactured in Dec 1972. It has been kept in roadworthy condition throughout but is not perfect by any means because I still use it regularly as everyday transport. The 1100cc engine is the original but obviously some parts have been replaced, although the cylinder head has never been removed. The gearbox and back axle are original too and the dynamo charging has been retained. The only serious modification is that the rear springs were replaced with a pair from a Mk2 Estate about 20 years ago. This greatly improved both the the cornering and load carrying capacity. The recorded mileage is currently just short of 297,000 miles which to my mind is pretty remarkable for an 1100cc petrol engine. Can anyone beat this?
Mk1 Escorts are such a great cars to drive and it's such a shame that they are so rarely seen nowadays, apart from at shows and other organised events. Estates in particular appear to be getting few and far between. I live in East Sussex.
