I bought this last year, it had been off the road since 1986! Within a day we had it running and the chap that bought it from me had it mot'd within a few weeks!

You could try this.... MR2 engine cover from the breakers yard £20! the downside is the smoothing the filler out and making a new bonnet frame as the vents cover the original bracing. You can just make out the new bracing from the bottom pic

If it had dark blue rs2000 stripes it was my mate H, in his cossie powered mk1, he lives in brum, p.s i use a mk1 4dr EVERYDAY for work, shopping etc etc and i have a 2dr i use in the summer for fun! but it would be nice to see more out on the road

I've had the same thing, i sold a 1600e to some one ten years ago and its not turned a wheel since. I went past not long ago and its lost its screen now

Though you guys would like to see this barn find i got last year! I use a mk1 4dr every day and this guy waved me over and said he had a mk1 in his garage he wanted out of the way. The story was that an old boy had the car pretty much from new ( there were reciepts in the car from the mid seventies) and parked in up in his garage in 1986 ( tax disc in the window) and left it there. He died in around 1998 and his family sold the house to the guy who pulled me over with the 1300e stuck in the garage. The new house owner had no interest in cars especially old ones and said he hadn't looked at it more than twice in all the years he's lived there. I bought it for £250, pumped up the tyres, freed the brakes and dragged it out with my escort. Had it low loaded to my mums and the next day by changing the carbs and fitting a battery and blowing through the fuel lines had it running! (though the brakes were real dodgy) I was going to strip it for parts for my other mk1 4dr but ironically the body on it was far better than the one is was driving around in! So i sold it to a mate who promptly did some welding and replaced all the brakes and mot'd her. He's used it since mid last year but has now sold it on. And finally the next day now running, a clean up, and some decent wheels! So remember theres stuff still out there!

I use a mk1 everyday for work shopping etc.. and have done for years, ok its only a 4dr, but its mexico spec with all the toys and there's no reason you can't use these things everyday! if you want an everyday mk1, aviod any rs escorts, even back in the day (20 yrs ago) I never bothered with them as you were paying a premium in purchase price and insurance for a log book a badge and bragging rights really, and you ran a much greater risk of theft, we used to just mod standard cars to the same spec very easily. The locks are poor and need to be modded, we used to fit modern barrels from mk3/4 escorts, they can be easily fitted. If someone wants to steal you car then its going to be hard to stop them, but of course this can be said for most things. A tracker is a good idea and also a kill switch, to combat theft from your home a wheel clamp is an excellent deterent, and i've found that the best tool against oppurtunist theft is to put a quality steel cable looped around the seat base and then threaded through the steering wheel and padlocked when you leave the car, easily visible to any potential thief. Ive always used a cable/padlock and a kill switch and so far never had a car stolen and I know that this has saved at least one of my vehicles in the past!

seriously mate don't feel guilty about breaking it, most of us have done it and ALL of us have bought second hand spares for our cars and would be lost without them and in reality there are plenty of mk3 capris left. The people who should feel guilty in my mind are the ones who leave osf's on the driveway for years on end to rot away, and when you ask if the're for sale its the same old 'i'm gonna restore it' only for them to end in the scrap years down the line

I went to Pauls meet and it was great, i thought it would really take off, unfortunatley at the last one there was only one person there..... ME! I think the main problem was that as it turns to winter, folks take their cars off the road, so if you start a meet now you have more chance of establishing it better! What about the last sunday of every month?

hey paul no probs! the quality of the cars was exquisite, and the conversation was sparkling hey rick i have 3 mk1's but not for long as one is on ebay at the mo due to lack off funds, also its in the 'cars for sale section' on the osf site, will see you guys soon
