  1. yes i have been on a couple of dyno's, when i brought my car it came with a dyno readout from LPS in ipswich which was very much simular to Track & Road and i felt this was about right. LPS Ipswich - 144bhp / 136 lbs of torque. (2005) Track & Raod - 143.5bhp132.6 lbs of torque. (2006) Sanspeed - 161bhp (sept. 2007) TOTD - 137.8bhp / 130lbs of torque. the first 3 where done at peak revs of 6600 but at TOTD my rev limiter was set at 6000 / 6200 so around 140bhp is i believe about right and sanspeeds figue i always thought was to high Yikes, Sanspeeds dyno flatters somewhat doesnt it
  2. cheers fella's, I know that now!
  3. no stranger to forums and excuse if i'm being dumb but what does this emoticon mean ?
  4. think it is ITG on Gary's car, but i think its the proximity of the trumpets to the filter causing the issue
  5. we are in uxbridge middlesex, 90 miles from you according to aa routefinder
  6. Cool, you'll probably get a call from me soon then Re the megajolt, i can't get it to talk to a lap top with the usb to serial lead but i've got a laptop that talks to it perfectly via serial to serial lead - if your computer doesn't wanna talk to it would it work using mine? cheers mate my laptop has a serial port too so no worries
  7. I can feel myself going now Toby!
  8. we charge dyno time out for mapping/tuning at £90 an hour plus vat, we dont round up the hours to the nearest one, we just charge what we take, megajolt can be done if you have the ecu lead and a copy of the software for my laptop, i map most management system (except weber alpha) lol
  9. cheers fella, building a new ST170 Zetec Turbo engine for it full of the good bits, should be quicker one day, (when i get the time to do it)
  10. lol, I have no idea fella, have not run it yet, showed 270 no gas on PE dyno, so 250 i would assume, will let you know if i can be arsed to get it out of the garage some day
  11. Perhaps some where with more flattering figures!! Did you run again without your Air filter? no mate they wanted to go home but i took it off anyway and it feels much better according to the "mk1gaz poo my pants" arse dyno !!!!!!! IMO that's probably much more accurate!! if you want to believe your "higher power figure" Toby go ahead!, i thought your car was great power for a non crossflow headed engine. No offence intended - the green smiley meant I was joking about Gaz's Pooy pants being more accurate!! I fully believe your dyno figures, I saw them with my own eyes!! Your workshop is tidy and professional. Your hospitallity - bacon buttys and tea - not to mention all the staff who seemed like genuine enthusiasts themselves, really made the day great. The only problem I have with the day is it makes some of us look like we "made up" our previous power claims, when I had seen them too with our own eyes. As your figures are right, given it's got a good reputation for accuracy, I think I might look into a bit more head work, as I seem to be MILES off the 100 bhp per litre! Thanks again for a great day! 100 bhp/litre is no mean feat fella, garys 16v crossflow headed cosworth engine didnt even make it on the day , he seems to think its better with the air filter removed though!, Toby, I was genuinely amazed at how much power your car made, if it had of made 190 bhp i think i would have fallen over!, I see many cars, Ferrari's, cossys, screaming zetecs and honda vtecs, they didnt impress me like your little four pot did!
  12. great to hear so many great comments from you guys, its true, everyone wants to believe the higher power figures they have got, but have you ever thought about believing the lower ones?, they could be closer to the truth?, just leaves more room for improvement in my opinion, yes my dyno does not seem to flatter but oh my god is it repeatable once an engine has stabilised after a few runs, I can see the difference a few degrees of timing makes when mapping or setting up a car, I have tuned many a car over the years on a different dyno that calculates transmission losses on coastdown, I used to believe that dyno was very accurate, one thing it wasnt though was consistent, i have had many a customer from my previous employment follow me to Torque of the Devil, they are starting a fresh with the power figures now and accept that a 6 month old "latest technology" dyno may be reading a little bit more accurately than a 20 year old unit. We open our dyno to independent tuners regularly, they appreciate the repeatability and accuracy that the Dyno Dynamics units offer, Mclaren road car division were down with us recently for me to map a road mule development car with a 550 bhp 7 litre chevy V8 in it, the engine was only in there to develop the car but it was the power they wanted to replicate when the car is finalised with its "proper" engine, anyway, i could rabbit for days............. i was seriously impressed with how friendly you lot were and how awseome some of the cars performed, 2.0 8v pinto engines developing more power than late model, fuel injected multivalved highly efficient alloy units!, thats what you guys should be comparing against, truly incredible!
  13. Indeed fella, good to meet you, shame you couldn't bring the "legend"
  14. And thank you Dean, awesome capri fella
  15. Thanks Mike, constructive critism mate, no worries, you really cant compare chassis dyno's with engine dyno's though, i have personally mapped an engine on HT racings superflow engine dyno, the trumpets on your carbs are very close to the innerwing on your escy and that would have not been the case when it was on HT's dyno, I truly belive your engine when it was on aarons engine dyno made what you quote, but it can vary when in the car with a hot rad in front of it. as far as the cossy goes, different dyno cooling fan/fuel in the tank/and intake air temps can all have an effect on what a car makes, and also if the dyno was set up correctly before the run, can you post up the graph from today and the one from my home town of marlow?, be interesting to see the specs. thank you for the kind comments about TOTD by the way, its how i wanted the place to be, clean and professional. chris
  16. Drive (sometimes) a 1980 silver supersport with supercharged turbo'd and nitroused 1900 cvh engine in the back RWD, best 1/4 mile 11.5 at 120 mph GPS timed 0-60 at 3.6 secs Run Torque of the Devil in west london. Hello everybody
  17. Correction, he had an alternator albeit broken, but had no starter motor
  18. Hi guys, just a quick word on the dyno figures. Some/most of you had figures today lower than what you have had on the rollers in the past, this happens quite often on dyno days at TOTD. I believe our dyno (and all dyno dynamics) dyno's to be extremely accurate, I had the choice to buy whatever dyno I wanted 9 months ago and chose dyno dynamics over all others, i didnt rush into this, i spoke to various other engine tuners and others who already used them. most other dyno's use the "overun coast down losses" method of estimating flywheel horsepower (note: NO chassis dyno can measure flywheel horsepower, its purely an estimate), but how can you measure transmission losses on the overun?, transmission losses grow the more power you make! I believe my dyno is the most accurate chassis dyno i have used in 12 years, do your other dyno operators correct for barometric pressure, relative humidity and intake air temperatures?, might be worth asking the question at your next dyno shoot out day, anyway, enough waffling on, i believe a standard pinto made 102 bhp today which is good enough for me. THE ONLY WAY to measure the true flywheel horsepower of your engines is to remove the engine from the car and run it on a corrected engine dynamometer. loved the cars today, some were truly stunning, keep up the great work! i'm off to look around this great forum now. chris
  19. Perhaps some where with more flattering figures!! 20. Can I just say on behalf of me and all at TOTD thank you to everyone who attended today, I had a great day and really enjoyed seeing and running some fantastic and well sorted cars, nice one Gary for organising it. Nice people, great motors!
