hi lads, if your going to try and do some flocking yourself, get some scrap pieces first for practice because one you have flocked the parts, if you make a mistake you have to strip it all back down. My equipment has cost me just over £1000 but this is for the proper stuff as this is my business. I charge £45 to do a mk-mk2 escort dash if thats of any use to any one. Here is a quick explanation of how flocking works:
You apply an adhesive to the substrate/dash
You have a hopper containing 1mm nylon fibres
you put a positive charge through the nylon fibres and at the same time put a negative charge through the substrate/dash, this inturn uses the adhesive as an earth
the effect of this is the fibres being attracted onto the substrate/dash like dust to a telly.
Be aware though like dust to a telly, if this process isnt done in a controlled environment then alsorts will be stuck and blended in. Also be aware of the time needed to cure the adhesive, if companies are offereing silly turn around speeds ask for photo's of the item once it has been flocked as the adhesive needs at least 24hrs at a controlled temp.
If you use another company make sure that they do this in a controlled area and not a garage as most companies are doing this as a spin off from there normal garage work.
We only do flocking so there is no danger there.
Hope this helps
