  4. so possibly then the wheels may not rub the arches being 16inch? I will get some spacers and hope it don't rub and drive like a pig!!
  5. Probably looking at 20mm plus at a guess so studs too?
  6. Seen 2 spacers and studs on ebay for about £25 will do it - depending on the space I need!?
  7. Ahh right! What if I was to put lower profile tyres on them? instead of the 55 profile? Just a thought!

Hello all, I bought a scrap mk3 m-o-n-d-e-o (dont know why it wont let me post the word m-o-n-d-e-o)to strip and sell the parts and the wheels are 16 inch 5 spokes original ford wheels but better than the 13 inch specials on my Capri so I put the back wheel on which was fine but the front wheel hits the strut well the tyre does so I'm a bit annoyed at the mo! My question is can I do anything about it so it will fit? the tyre width is the same as the special wheels 205's I'm sure I have seen 17" rims on 2.8 Capri???
  9. Anyone in need of a downloadable online workshop manual for the 2.8 here it is http://files.capri.pl/library/manuals/c ... i-1981.pdf no idea how I stumbled on this I have been searching for days!!
  10. Does anyone have a guide or a picture/scan of a Haynes manual for adjusting tappets on the 2.8? I want to adjust them hopefully in the next few days so I could do with a guide from start to finish, last time I done tappets was about 16 years ago on a mini! Bit skint at mo so I cant go out and buy a manual (mortgage payment time!) and just want to get on with it while I'm off work for a week and kids off school. I might as well give the engine a good clean and spray some parts chrome while I'm in there! I can get to the tappets fine and I know firing order and the gap sizes on the feel my gauge! so just a refresh really! pics work great!! Hope you can help??

Today I replaced the gearbox mount which made no difference to the vibration so Ive checked all the plugs, dissy etc, inside the dissy theres a copper wire coil with a fabric around it, this fabric is broken so probably not a good thing? Also when engine is off the viscous fan I can spin but not smooth then it gets jammed using force to release it, I can shake fan blades left and right about half inch could this be the problem with vibration??

  17. Right... I have changed oil in halfords today they and found a halfords classic oil which is just mineral at 20w50 so do you think this is safe to use?? Heres a pic any way!
  18. I'm going into town in the morning so I might as well change it in halfords just in case? I will look out for the 20w50 classic. I may go for something thats not synthetic which I guess that was all there was around back in the swinging 80's!
  19. Cheers for the quick reply! When I changed oil I used halfords 10w40 think that was a semi-synthetic? The oil my father in law bought was halfords 10w40 part synthetic - for car built after 1990, mines an '83
  20. I done an oil and filter change about 5 weeks ago and checked oil other day and it was just over the minimum line so she must be burning it off? I was at work and my father in law got me some oil from halfords as he was near there, But I'm not sure if I can use part synthetic? I have read not to use it and also read you can and in halfords in their flip chart it say you can use it?? I'm a bit confused and not sure if I should top her up with it?? Oh yeah its a 2.8 Capri!   21. Checked everything and found the fuse for the dash lights had cracked but couldn't tell till you pulled fuse apart so after all that checking everything it was just the fuse! And the rear wiper a wire had broke behind the dash! Should have the Capri working normal next weekend!
  22. Then thats one solved!! Just the job! I shall buy a new one from your link! Still need to sort dash lights and rear wiper issue! Checked four relays I could find on drivers kick panel but seems all OK? I have a small water leak that runs down the relays so it must be something around there?
  23. Thanks for the advice! I have had a look at the bits you mention and it looks like the gearbox mount? I'm not sure how much movement there should be but it shakes when engine ticking over and I can move it easily with my hand. I took a 15 sec video which I will put below you may see some movement?
  24. Can anyone give me the fireing order for the 2.8 Capri? I have come to the conclusion the engine mounts are OK? This vibration has only just started so prob nothing to do with fireing order? What else could cause this vibration?
