hi thanks for getting back to me, it is left had drive (forgot that bit) and made as far as i can ascertain in Saalouis in Germany, as far as the 49 bits being added later i really don't think so the reinforced front suspension tops are factory spot welded the anti tramp bars on the rear axle are original it just all looks right if you know what i mean, ? what are your thought? thanks steve

hello i'm new here and i need all the help i can get please forgive me if this post is in the wrong area, i have just purchased a rot box mk1 1973 escort i payed far to much for it ( i think anyway) it was advertised as a 49 shell, so anyway i got the car and proceeded to make sure all the 49 bit are in the right place which they are, now here is the question did they produce them in Germany as that is where this one was made and it also has the chassis number ccatmy07797 which does not seem right for a 49 shell ? can any body shed some light on my new money pit. incidentally it ticks all the box's in the in old skool fords '' how to recognize a 49 shell '' thanks in advance Steve
