  1. Am I the only person here that thinks thats just pug ugly? If it were a kit car, i'd put it in the same catagory as this
  2. only up to date ones are the start of the rear tub, I aint been out there, had the flu, then drove my E36 coupe into the crash barrier disceting the m54 and m6, so my back aint been up to much, so went out there today and took some pics of what i did a couple weeks ago.
  3. what pictures would you like to see.....as a lot of the early stuff, that people think is permanent is embarasing.
  4. there is a lot more wow under the face of that lot, a lot of strenghtening in the inner sill.
  5. yup a ringer, thats what it is, its 2 stolen vehicles welded together, with a fake identity to pass it off as ligitiment...well spotted. any who, incase anyones interested abortionate adjoining of 2 parts (TEMPOARARY) semi shaped construction (NOT FINNISHED THOUGH PERMANANT)
  6. Surprised he wasnt carted of in a seperate police car for A) Abondoning his vehicle on the public highway, and Brandishing an offensive weapon in public. you might not be able to stay annon, if the person ""YOU"" restained/attacked decides to press charges....wont be the first time, wont be the last, and its the reason I personally would have just called 999 like your supposed to.
  7. I have a couple...but they are dark....unfortunatly my camera doesnt like taking photos in the garage, and its too blooming cold to push it out side. I'll post up the reworking of the end of the inner sill where the 2 parts of the floor join in the next few days when i can get hold of a better camera. as to the guy who posted about the floor being twisted when the roof came off, do you not think it would have twisted when it was cut in 2? I can tell you, there were measurments taken for over 40 points, 20 diagonals and 20 lateral, I also took a lot of care to keep the rear submountings at the same angle as to which they were originally, 81 degrees. I can tell you one thing for nothing, A S!erra is a LOT easier to do this with, all you have to do is cut along the ford joint at the rear of the pan where it joins the rear seat upright, remove the piece of floor still attached to the lip, shorten your forward section, and slide that back under the rear and spot weld it back together to replicate the ford seam. The bm floorpan is a LOT more complicated, and if I were to build another, from the experience of making this one, I would know where to cut, what sections need to be what shape etc.... I'm not saying I will, but once it's all together, I might just buy another compact, cut the compact out of this one and redo it from scratch. I might even do it with an M3.... anywho, there are more pics elsewhere, like retrorides, manchester classic ford, or even the e36 forum if you wanna do a search
  8. besides, is that the worst picture you could find? a couple litte crappy tabs to hold the body at the right height? How about this little doosey? I take it from your lack of expression on this major joint that you think its acceptable? As I said in the above post, you probably even think this is pernanant. as to using brand new 1.6mm steel, thats got a bit of surface rust on it where it was left outside for 6 days whil I was away on holiday, how is this an issue? the cars gonna be acid dipped when Im finnished, so the metal will be as new...if there was a new oldstock wing with a bit of surface rust on it, would you call that scrap to?
  9. don't bother mate, just let them to it. I'm sure he thinks that is permanant, I'm sure he thinks that those inner wheel tubs are staying, I bet he even thinks there is going to be a gert big hole between the seats and the fire wall, just let him think that, I no longer give a shit what narrow minded people think on this site.....makes good reading though.
  10. I only signed on this forum to read this thread....if you search around, you might be able to find certain forums where this thread is being discust
  11. And i thought i was the only one who thought that Good luck with it mate Tar
  12. nope you dont, as its not a modification, as is changing an engine, unless you modify the monocoupe shell to fit the engine. and as to m3 running gear, you never can tell i might just do that yet, personally i was thinking v12 though, as its a straight swap, but the twin wiring looms scare me...but then there is mega squirt if I really wanted to do it. And im not comparing what ive done with modifying a transtunnel, or even fitting wheel tubs, I'm just pointing out that any modification to the shell means you have to inform vosa. and if you dont, your driving an illegal vehicle, and your insurance needs to be informed. more a case for anyone who has posted on this thread critisising me, who might have said mods on their vehicles...you know, pot kettle and all that. as to whats the point?, whats the pointing in putting a crappy rover v8 in a mk1 escort when a cossie yb would pee all over a rv8.
  13. Have you informed Vosa and applied for a BIVA? Also, have you informed your insurance company of the modifications to your vehicle? You do know if you havent done the above you are driving a death trap in the eyes of the law? not in my eyes, just the eyes of the law.
  14. Cause if your driving towards it, and it splits in twain and carriers into you, you would be mithed to find it was in an inadiquit state to be on he road.... But again this could be said of any kitcar or modified vehicle
  15. Yup saloon, compact, coupe, convertible, touring all 2700mm, but only the compact has the tank in the middle under the rear seat, giving the perfect place to loose that excess 300mm, just couldn't do it with any other variation of e36. As to driving it in the rain, I don't even like driving my daily driver in the wet as it's super twitchy, and that's an e36 coupe. Can't see why it shouldn't bewater tight once it's all sealed though
  16. Never seen an M3 compact was done with a compact so i didnt have to cut across the floor and loose all the handbrake mountings and loose valuable strenght cutting through the floor.
  17. thanks for that comment, it's areas like where the 2 parts of the floor have been joined....none of this is staying, its all going to be rebuilt when the wheel tubs go in and the inner and outer sills are joined, the A posts are going to be cut off and remade with 1 piece of steel rather than a patchwork quilt of steel, the 2 bits of plate holding the rear boot hinges in place are tempoary, there is a lot that just there to keep it all in shape as its built....
  18. yup as with anykit car... Don't get me wrong here, I think the sva was great....it went through the motor, checking every thing was safe, even beyond safe, but the BIVA is going beyond safe....as I said, if you bought a 2010 mondeo, and cut the boot floor out, welded in a flat section, it would pass a BIVA. if you took a 2003 mondeo, did the same, it wouldnt pass a BIVA...so that means, a 2003 mondeo is infact unsafe to be on the road, so here is a tip for pre 2003 mondeo owners, YOU ARE DRIVING A DEATH TRAP!!!
  19. just out of curiosity, is it law in this country that you have to be a certified welder to weld motor vehicles?...I know it is on the continent, but I'm not sure it is over here. If it is, where do you stand building locosts?
  20. It wasnt to bad, it only would have needed 2 front inner wings, front chassis rails, 2 A posts, B post repairs, dash, seat crossmemebr 4 floor pans, gearbox tunnel, diff tunnel, bulkhead, rear chassis legs, inner wheel tubs, inner and outer sills both sides, spring hangers, rear shock mounting support, and then gusseted to make it strong enough to survive the crash a few on here are expecting to happen when ever they drive down the road.
  21. Which finnished, strenghend, bosses and gusseted picture are you refering to? or are you just useing your imagination as to what it is going to be finnished as? are you saying, modifying the monocoupe is not a job for vosa? and I can tell you, if you took a mk1 escort to vosa for a BIVA !!!IT WILL FAIL ON LOADS"""" hence it would not be safe for the road? Not safe to be on the road to me says unsafe, so yes, thats exactly what i'm saying in comparison. my thoughts exactly, as long as this passes an mot when finnished, doesnt bend and twist when you jack it up from any corner, stops as well as if not better than an E36 (remebering it will be nearly 200 kilos lighter than the E36), then I'm happy. As to crashing....how do you think you would fair in a head on crash in a standard mk1 escort? Infact, what is the N Cap rateing for a 1969 Escort? I'll take my chances in a crash, what with my airbags and full safty cage.
  22. Just for the sake of it, there are a lot of dangerous modifications made to escorts, and a lot of you guys on here are flouting the law every time you get behind the wheel. How about, larger transmission tunnel, large diff tunnel, pro link kit, flat boot floor? If you vehicle has any of the above, you have a modified monocoupe shell, hence falling into the category of modified vehicle, subjecting it legally to BIVA, so if you haven't had your car BIVA'd not only is your car dangerous it's also illegally on the road. So get yourself a BIVA application form, get ready to loose your v5c, get a new reg mark, loose your osf status as your builld date will be first registered from that date, and be prepared to fail as 98% of production cars would fail a BIVA, let alone on OSF!!!!!
  23. It's lighter than an e36, but heavier than a mk1, but your right, this is so dangerous and the tack welding to hold it's shape in the interim is shocking. I once saw a mk1 with a Sierra floorpan, now that's dangerous!!!! Could you imagine having a crash in a Sierra? No airbags, no abs, no crumple zones, doesn't bear think off. P.s this wouldn't pass a BIVA in a million years, it even has a different key to the locking fuel cap!!! Not to mention how far mk1 escort door handles protrude, I'm fact shame on anyone driving a mk1 with a modified gearbox tunnel to fit a 5 speed and not declaring it to vosa, having their tax exempt status stripped, and getting a Q plate!!!!! how dangerous and illegal those cars are too in the eyes of Vosa
