  1. Well that's it then, MK 1 badges it is.... Thanks for your input!
  2. Ah good job! I am really liking the 1600 sheid as well for the wings. I just didn't want to get shot down and all that. As most of you say, I am sure there will be people will mention "that the wrong badge on that car" but I suppose half of us have the wrong engines as well.... How can it be wrong if it looks and goes so right!
  3. This may be a silly question but..... I have been looking through different on line stores and trying to build in my mind what I think my 1974 Capri will look like once it is finished. I think I have settled on keeping her all black with chrome accessories simple and stylish me thinks! But I do like the look of some of the badges that were on the Mk 1 Capri, the silver XL with a wreath round it for example. Mine is also and XL, I would not use the GT badge as mine is not a GT. I do not want to pretend it is something it isn't. Can I use these Mk 1 items on my Mk 2 car, or is this just not cricket?????
  4. That's all great advice..... Thanks. I feel a bit more prepared now. I will start the stripping at the weekend, get snapping with the camera then start up a project thread. I have waited years to do this.
  5. that's great cheers... Will a 2.0 starter motor work on my 1.6?
  6. I cleaned her tonignt and there really is very little rust and rot. I pulled back the carpets and guess what!!???!!!! Solid! I must be one of the lucky ones. I will take some pics at the weekend when there is some light and I will show you what I mean.. I don't think I mentioned before but the car has been stored in a dry store for the 8 years and out side for the last year, this may be why the body work is in such good condition. I did find another tiny rust hole in the bonnet, but thats not hard to deal with. Any ideas where i would get a starter motor from?
  7. Yes I like that! Rust investigation and a stripped interior, I think I can handle that. I should add this will not be a total nut and bolt strip down, as I do not have the knowledge or a suitable place to do that yet. But the interior can be stripped and the engine can be removed. I will need to lock it up at night. I will give it a good wash when I get home and I should be able to see how bad the rust is. This is great keep it coming.
  8. Well my new baby arrived last night and I am not sure what to do next. She is a dirty girls so I will clean her tonight and see what lies beneath. Inside: The interior is in really good condition apart from a couple of missing trims. Outside: There is a lot of paint peel with some surface rust begining, a 1.5 inch hole in the pasenger side door skin and a bit of rot behind the front wheel arches, but nothing too bad. Engine: the 1600 pinto is a runner in need of a clean and a tune. A new battery and starter motor are required. This is my first project so I chose this car as it is pretty solid already. I want to remove rust and rot, re paint, tune up, MOT and then drive. But where do I start, what should I consentrate on. I am in no rush, I want to do it right. Any advice will be great.
  9. I would go with the steels for sure..... I just bought a MK2 Capri and have the same dilema, Steels or 4 spoke RS alloy's But seeing yours I think I want the steels.
  10. I am in sunny Southport in the North West about 18 miles from Liverpool. I cant wait to get this baby on the road I want a real 70's look to her, still in black but with a white stripe wrapping round the rear window down to the fromt of the car. Maybe some slot mags or orig capri mags....???? And a big afro wig and flairs!
  11. Hay there, I have been wanting to be part of a Capri club for an age, I just love old 70's cars. So my wife has just bought me this to play with. I am sure I will need a lot of advice and help over the coming months as I have never fixed up a car before....slow and steady for this one I think, I want to get it right. Any help will be great.
