Pre-Pirelli Rally Testing - Pictures and Videos

Spent today in Kielder while some crews were out testing ready for the Pirelli rally.

 

I've put a video of one of the Mk2's which was out on you tube

the crew are Irish, I believe the driver was called Cunningham.

 

Still haven't sorted through all the pics properly so will add more later. I was playing about with my dads new camera so they aren't the best of pics.

 

For now I have three (not all old skool though)

Another video from the testing, Hannu Mikkola's son Vesa in a Honda Civic. About as far away from old skool Ford as you can get but probably of interest to those who remember Hannu in the Escort days.

Just got back from marshalling on the Pirelli. I was on stage 3 (the valley) in Kershope forest. Absolutely magnificent watching all those MK1 and MK2s broadside round my bend. Also good to see all the Lotus cortinas going well. The highlight for me was watching Jimmy McRae in the MK2, the man is still a god, he was as fast as anyone past me (including the 4wd boys).

I was doing stage starts on SS6 / SS13 Archie's Rigg which is part of the old Pundershaw stage.

 

The Escort's were all cracking off the line, surprise of the day for me was the S2000 class Toyota in the International. It sounded like a proper car!!

 

Not too bad a day really, especially winding the RAF and Army boys in the Land Rovers up by telling them that the others had been saying they were shite.

 

Doing startlines is seldom a good day out as it is just constantly being busy and not seeing anything of note.
