i have searched high and low for a volvo forum to ask this question on and cant find one and i cant find the part i need either!

 

what i wanna know is....

 

would a 5 speed rose joited quickshift for a ford gearbox fit my volvo tank?

 

the gearstick is like a willy in a bucket and i want something better

just cut the stick down or make youre own they are pretty simple if its anything like the ford one (raise the pivot ball and mount)

 

or just take the volvo the the scrappy

its got 5th gear and yes it has the lift up bit of i would of already hacked it apart

think thats the M47 can never rember which is which i had the OD the M46/7 is good for about 200+bhp then you need an M90 good for 400bhp

 

did you join up on turbobricks, a chap called nick was putting a volvo redblock (same block as yours) in a mk1 escort

i dont really like the greabox as its a really sloppy change! I NEED A QUICKSHIFT! and when im giving it some and i change into 4th it always crunches cos im too fast for it

 

plus the car has a soggy arse cos the old owner carried slot machines in it so its a bit soft

on a serious note, might be that the shifter mechanism itself is worn, so maybe try one off a scrapper?

Find someone who can weld and take the gear lever to them. cut off the lower part (below the ball) and weld a piece in (about 13mm) Reassemble with new bushes. Problem sorted.

How much shorter is the shift throw with 13mm extra? I modified my m47 with 38mm long spacer welded in, but I had to raise the mounting point of the shifter 38mm to keep the linkage in line, overall it shortened the throw aproximatley 55% ( 6" to 2.9" throw) It works beutifully but takes a little effort to shift, but it is fun.

 

If one can weld the short shifter is an easy mod that works really good

 

get the welder out mate

 

im just gonna butcher a spare fiesta shifter see if i can doo the same thing

well ive just butched the spare fiesta linkage

 

and melted a plastic bearing in the process so gonna do the upgrade to metal
