FlashCadillac Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 anyone done it? how hard and what are you left with?
johnny_h Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 I peeled off the vinyl roof from Twinkle's Toad when it was mine. It came off easy just leaving behind some dried glue which came off with carb cleaner and a credit card scraper. I have heard horror stories though, depends how solid your roof is.
FlashCadillac Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 how do you even start to peel it off without putting big gouges in the body work??? is the vinyl soft or a solid mould?
mr 6ix Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 did it once never again b*stard to get off and rust everywhere underneath i spent a week prepping it for a new vinyl wished i never started
Wessie Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 steve mk2 took his off, it looks alot better without it on IMHO
FlashCadillac Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 why would you take it off or is it rotten Hahahah no reason just dont like them
lee_capri Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 if its in good condition i would leave alone, try to fill if its rusty or bulging under-neith vinel i have took 1 of a capri and wish i hadnt as the roof had started to rot ware boot hinges are so i put new vinel roof on it very east to do if you take your time, celouse finers is also very good at taking glue off, if your roof as gone dull try rubbing baby-oil in to it to bring colour and shine back bany oil also works on any-black plastic items on your car but im just guessing to the reason you want to remove vinel, good luck with it
Hunter T Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I did mine a week b4 CF show... It took 11 hours to put it all back together with new roof... I was told it was all in the prep... If your taking it right off, I got mine to the stage where you could have primed and painted the roof as was... 6 hours to get the roof off and all the glue off... 3 of those hours was with 2 people doin it... long job. Whats the roof like now? Mine was helped by the fact that the centre top was dried and cracked... the bits where it was darker and not cracked are harder... the glue seemed softer underneath and less easy to strip. Plenty of hard work, sharp paint stripper blades and petrol or white spirit to help the glue off... Good luck!
