Daveyboy20 Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 001 Offside rear tyre depth below legal requirment of 1.6mm 002 Nearside front anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement 003 Nearside front (bush) torsion bar excessive play at an end fixing 004 Offside front lower axel swivel joint has excessive play in a ball joint 005 Nearside rear upper (void) trailing arm rubber bush bonding deteriorated resulting in excessive movement 006 Nearside fron headlamp not in good working order adversely affecting beam image 007 Nearside front headlamp aim not tested 008 Exhaust emmisions carbon content excessive ahem.... Right, i'm assuming "004 Offside front lower axel swivel joint has excessive play in a ball joint" means trackrod ends? This one im not to sure on "003 Nearside front (bush) torsion bar excessive play at an end fixing" or is this one the track rod ends and the one above a ludicrously difficult job? Grrrr. Gonna do a full polybush job, replacing the lot, may as well get two trackrod ends, a pair of halogen lamps and obviously a tyre and a wid down of the old carb coz it is running very rich my mates say you can smell the petrol when they follow. Have i misinterpreted anything in the list? Cheers guys
lee_capri Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 id say it was the lower swing arm and which is also the ball joint dint you ask him to show you or ring him and he will tell you m8 so you dont need much doing just silly jobs to do
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 That's not too bad mate and next year you'll just go straight through
Daveyboy20 Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 Yeah i gess ill have to ask him to be sure, i suppose ill see it when i strip it for the bushes - not looking forward to that job but at least it'll look good and handle well after! Gonna give it all a lick of black hammerite 2 add to the effect. What do you think orange or yellow polys?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 i would say no4 is the ball joint not track rod end the torsion bar (tie bar)is a bar which comes from the front axle/xmember area to the front under neath the rad mont area theres two one at each side a big nut at the front of each its the bush behind the big nut which has gone
Daveyboy20 Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 Oh right is that that one? It is shagged its all squashed out of the sides and cracked, i htink it is some sort of polybush as it appears to be yellow (and black!) but it must be nearly as old as the car itself!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 they are a whitey orangy colour it will probally be the original one my mifes mk2 fiesta has them and the o/s one had dropped out alltogether and i couldnt find a new one for love nor money so i modified a sierra outer track control arm bush its still fine now
Pudge Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 I would say that 004 is the bottom ball joint. 003 is the track control arm outer bush, the larger one of the two. I'm presuming this is on your Capri. If it is then they have failed it on the wrong item, it's not a torsion bar it's an antiroll bar. If your unsure on an MOT you should ask to speak to the tester......and if I was the tester I would run away and hide
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 no its on his cortina and they do have torsion bars (tie bars) and anti roll bar they dont have track control arms
Retromotorsport Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 There's a suprise, the void bushes have gone Anyone remember when Cortinas where minicabs ... void bushes every 3 months ...
