Retromotorsport Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Thanks for posting this Tim... And yes Jo's right, there is a lot of un disclosed mods that go on in sprinting. But.... The Old Fords Sprint Championship isnt about modifications, its run on a handicap system (to be finalised at time of writing) so it dosnt matter if you say you have a Sidevalve when in fact you have Gaskin YBT in there with 450 horses. This championship can be won by anyone... no matter what mods are done. It can be a standard 100E on period correct crossplies or an all singing and Dancing 500bhp 11" slicks all round multi-linked suspensioned Mk2. A rough breakdown of costs.. Car Club membership.... £30 Helmet..........................£50-100 Overalls .......................£ 10 (of Ebay) or £80 for minimum spec brand new. Car prep*... You only need your ignition to be marked "ON" .."OFF" MSA Sprint Licence... £30 Each Round approx £60 entry fee. Fun.... priceless Comradeship.. priceless.. (friendliest racers out there... they help out and will advise you till you start winning lol ) Learning... priceless... nothing will teach you car control like sprinting. *note on car prep.. if its fitted it must be MSA eligible.. ie if you have a fire extinguisher fitted, it must be the MSA approved one.. if it isnt take it out. Same as cut offs, if it isn't an FIA one (cuts the alternator) you will have to upgrade or remove it. If you unsure about anything on your car ask in the Q&A section on TS .. There is no need to have anything "Race Preped" to run your car, standard belts etc are allowed, you dont even need a cage (allthough I will advise you have one properly fitted) and again.. if a cage is fitted and its not correct (ie a homegrown thing) you will have to remove it.

sambo Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Oh man. I would love to take part in this but i just know that when the time comes, i wont be able to get there cos some of the venues will be too far away. I'd better stay away from this thread in case i do something stupid and put my name down.
bashmk1 Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 i really wanna get into hill climbs and sprints, and going by what gary says its doesnt need too much prepwork to get it into the comp. im fed up of getting busted on public roads, plus its irresponsible of me to drive like a twat. im seriously gonna lok into this.
tim Posted October 21, 2006 Author Report Posted October 21, 2006 there are a few sprint down at lydden so its on your door step bash http://www.barc.net you can use a bog standard car in the road legal class, no major mods needed
