martymk1 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Got to get some rear seat belts for my newly aquired mk5 tina, my other half says go to a breakers yard, but i've always been told never get secondhand ones, always get new ones for safety sake, Can anyone help me out or give me somewhere i can buy new ones, thanks
fezza Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Mate just get some good second hand ones ,just because they have come out of another car does'nt mean they are no good,my seatbelts are 30 years old and still pass the mot and are perfectly safe
Jimsiss Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 aslong as the ratchet action still works and the belts aren't damaged they are still safe to use
DeuceCoupe Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 we had new ones done from a company in west byfleet.
antz Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 second hand doesnt mean its unsafe. the ones in my escort were locking up too early so i bought some good quality second hand ones. apssed the MOT perfectly. as long as the rachet action works fine and the belt isnt torn or damaged then they will be fine.
bufan Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 seatbelts deform during accident, they go longer catching your body. it works only first time, after that they look still good but are useless. thats why unknown secondhand belts should not be used
mk2_boy Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 buger, i just cut some out on thursday... should of looked on line earlier should of checked the post b4 i stripped it
