Right, I've read some literature which states that the "Baby Atlas" axle is acutally a "Salisbury -Type E" axle. - As opposed to the "Timken" Or "English - Type C" in old skool escorts.

The Salisbury was also fitted in 1970's MGB's too and I was wondering if it is the same axle - long shot I know but worth asking!

I would be surprised if it was the same internals, I know there are some swap overs from other axles as they were sold to many different companies,

The only swap overs I know of which still need some machining is the Jag Salisbury, this can swap over with the DANA 66, which from memory is a US Chrysler diff, and considered to be almost bulletproof, the other one that will swap over into the same casing is the one from a Bamford Diesel dump truck.

I would think an MGB axle would be a bit fragile, as I have seen several break under general use,

Cheers for the reply, My escort is my first RWD Ford and consequently my knowledge of Axles is crap!

I'll just keep the English in 'till it breaks!

Ian.. i did do a big reply to this yesterday but the site crashed as it was being posted

the gist being the common SAlisburys are the 4's 5's and 7's

4 and 5 being on Jags, Astons, Jensen healeys and Morgans

and the 7's being on Scimiters and bigger morgans

all 3 have seen life under dumper trucks

the sizes .. the 4 is heavy like a Ford 9" .. the 7 is about the same as an Atlas but slightly weaker some would say, and the 5 being the same.

Oh and Salisbury axles go from 3 to 16 ... in the HA's .. and a few others with names .. ie Atlas
