I'm coming over in March to work in London for a couple years.

I need suggestions of suburbs/counties (whatever you call them) for me to live.

I dont mind travel. 1 to 1.5hrs (each way) on train to/from work is cool.

I need a garage to store my esci (its coming with me).

It must be cheap (i wanna save as much as possible).

It cant be dodgy (ie dont wanna be stabbed every morning on the way to work).....

ok fire away .

LOL @ telling you where i'm gonna work. Kinda helps... ;)

The truth is I dont know.

But I dont really mind the travel. My main priority is saving some $$$ and getting my esci finished....

What realestate renting sites are there out there???

You will need to be more specific on the area that you will be working in or want to move to .... there are 1000's of estate agents and/or letting agents all around London.

It's like asking if we know Mr Smith who lives in London :lol::lol:

mushy,

having made the move to London in early january I may not be able to help.

However I can offer some of my observations. london can be a two hour town. That is it can take up to two hours to get anywhere. Therefore before asking where you should live Id be asking where are you going to work. What sort of Job are you looking for. If your a 'city boy' banker, finance or lawyer youll be working centrally. A commute on the tube of an hour from within zone 2 longer from outside zone 2. If your a mechanic you may be working further out and living on the wrong side of London to where you work will become unbearable. Hours in the tube or longer on the roads. If you intend on housing your car at your premises then you may be even further out again as from my experience and observations theres not alot of rental with secure and safe carparking. many use lockups, if they are lucky they are closeby to where they live but rarely in the same property. Driving daily will not help you save, 8 pound congestion charge per day for inner (zone 1i sh) carparking may cost 60-80 pound a day depending on where you park it and a parking fine may be as much as 80 pound from those I have seen. bicycle or wqlking is the cheapest way and leave the car for weekends and evening events. Carparking on the street is nigh on impossible in zone 1, permits for residents do not gaurantee a space and security is non existant. Im in inner london and daily there are numerous smashed windows in parked cars on my way to work, not to mention sideswiped cars by trucks squeezing through too small spaces, and badly driven cars.

my advice would be to arrive, get a job, then sort acommodation then bring the car over. It will get very expensive to house the car while you look for a job and a place to live.

Outside zone 2 or three may be alot better for your circumstances but without knowing what sort of work your after we cannot advise with more detail.

as for finding rentals gumtree.com is a good start, then try a local agent near where you get a job. in the interim try hostels with private rooms (first two weeks)as they are about a cheap as youll get untill you get settled or stay with friends who have space

Good luck!

Jpayne, gold advice mate.

Big thanks for that.

I'm in finance, so i'll be working in central london.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I'll arrive, stay with a couple friends for a bit to get settled. then i'll go looking for accomodation.

There's no way i'll be paying 80 quid a day to get to work - screw that!!!

And i'm not leavign my esci on the street

I'll check gumtree.com out.

Thanks again mate
