m1c Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 wanna replace mine, that STUPID AUTO CHOKE is driving me mental, who the fook wants to drive around town with it ticking over at nearly 2000rpm? its like its stuck, might drop a bit but no im not impressed. so where can i get one from that dont have auto choke? dont have to be anything special and certainly aint worth spending hundreds on a new one! mic
Muttley MK2 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 If you bypass the pipes to the choke unit the choke will never come off!!.You can do a lot with these chokes first is to ascertain whether the choke flaps retract fully when the choke is off. If they do not then you can adjust the tension on them by rotating the housing the small pipes are connected to. The fast idle is operated by a linkage on the carb and should be clean and free of crap, this too can be adjusted. With some more info I can prob sort it for you. I can also tell you how to convert to manual choke
m1c Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 this is it! ive had the filter box off and the plastic bit does move about if assisted with a finger. im only used to SU carbs, these are new to me!
Muttley MK2 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 It looks awfully like a VV carb to me, If it is then throw it away fit a manual choke weber conversion, bout £100 new or less off flea bay
m1c Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 you know, i been having a look on ebay and see theres some DOHC engines with injection system etc for around £100 - thinking it could have potential for same ££ as getting the 1.6 to run right! always change it to carbs later. worth a thought at least
Muttley MK2 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 No matey, you would need a loom and an ecu to run injection!! Get a manifold and carb off a mk2 or mk1 capri with a pinto engine. That will fit with minimal mods
m1c Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 ive been offered a 2.0 pinto engine free but its been stood a while and dont think he has the ancillerys for it either so no matter what i do its gonna cost! think if i get a carb for the 1.6 i can stick it on the 2.0 if its a runner. probably be the cheapest option too
Muttley MK2 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Yep not much difference between 1.6 and 2.0 carbs
m1c Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 ok but untill then, can anyone tell me how to get rid of the choke?! its horrible
