xpackken Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 this is what th the build sheet reads on the new v8 capri so if anyone can make propa sense of it all let me know whats what . i few people have said it wont be making alot of horse power because its on su,s but it seems to be a very scary car to drive a fellow v8 owning member dan455v8 will tell you that it aint no standard v8 and the owner told him whats been done to the carbs . THE BUILD SHEET EXACTLY AS WRITTEN . Rear axle consists of 2.8i lsd scorpian axle location kit fitted . single leafs bilistein third engine mount plate (under gbox) cut and rewelded to allow gbox and engine to move 1inch back . gbox ios standard 3.0s 4 speed no changes bar aps bell housing . engine mounts are one off by aps . exhaust manifolds are pattern item by aps . engine . standards su,s bar jaguar inlets into fuel chambers, neddles are reprofiled by north wales rolling road . exhaust is 2inch bore by pcs .heads are standard sd1 bar vittesse vaves and springs, spring seats lowered some by reel steel . oil connected to remote filter setup. spark plugs are bosch platinum. water pump is p6 type . alternater is ford , coil is rover, ignition is rove sd1 including ballast resistor plate on passenger side inner wing (silverplate) fuel pump is facet red top upto 300hp and is wired to oil preasure switch so it shuts down if engine stalls or oil preasure is low .(legal) hydraulic lifter are .rhoads type and can be noisy if driven hard (there designed to pump up at high revs to give more valve lift (more bhp) and bleed down at low revs to give better torque . pushrods are vittese (lighter than sd1) new cam chain fitted on rebuild .cam is crane 214 . the engine is rebored to 3.9 and high compression pistons are fitted .crank is reground and tuftrided .flywheel is lightened and alanced . crank and pistons and pulley wheel are balanced . clutch is standard vittese clutch (tvr) release arm etc from aps . thrust bearing is ford .supm and ick up pipe are both aps specials . the radiator is standard 3.0s and is moved ack 3 inchs . the radiator was rebuld and wider inlet and outlet pipes were welded on, also a little join was put on the top to allow water flow through the carb tower otherwise it get to hot and the fel evaporates . kenlowe fan is set to come on at 90 otherwise can override from the dash with a switch . i hope someone can tell me just what sort of spec this engine is because tbh it just makes no sense to me . ive counted up all of the recipts and they toal at 6000 odd pound _________________ Ferrari 333 SP
Muttley MK2 Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 What do you mean by spec? You know what has gone into the build. Do you want to know what kind of horsepower? A 3.9 with that sort of spec should be good for 200+. Not sure what the messin about with the carbs will do but the standard carbs really strangle the lump. Go for a 390 and edelbrock manifold. As for scary, well its likely to be, I had a 2.8 with a 351 cleveland and 4 speed in it (or wrapped around it!) and that was sure feckin scary!!! You could spin the wheels in all four gears and it would pull away in 3rd! That had 380 horses at the rear wheels
xpackken Posted November 25, 2007 Author Report Posted November 25, 2007 anyone else just wanted to know if it was a good spec thats all realy . _________________ BMW V12 LMR
ASBO CAPRI Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 Well if its making 271bhp thats very impressive for a rover. I recon my supercharged rover isnt making that much + i know of a fella that built 4.8 rover cost thousands and it only made something like 315bhp. Sounds like a lot of its down to the cam if its got lowered valve spring seats it must be because cam has lots of lift. I don't know the spec of the crane cam. vittesse valves are the biggest ones, but im supprised the heads are otherwise stock. Rover heads are quite restrictive. su carbs are not bad but the manifold there on is very restrictive. Sell the su's and fit edelbrock 500 carb better than the 390cfm holley. My 3.5 rover v8 made 165bhp at wheels (200bhp at the crank) im told by previous owner when it was n/a though i recon its got more and thats got worked on ported heads, edelbrock carb and manifold, unknown cam, mallery dual point dizzy, msd blaster 2 coil, msd 6AL ignition amplifier + tube exhaust manifolds 2.25 inch exhaust. My cappa has 2.8i lsd axle + v6 4speed box same as yours. runs 14.6 second 1/4 mile when n/a if yours is making 270 odd brake thats 13s on the 1/4 mile.
xpackken Posted November 25, 2007 Author Report Posted November 25, 2007 i might get it on the strip what would you say it would do on a strip at that spec as described . forgot the claimed bhp what bhp do you think mate im only going of what the previous owner claims . _________________ schrom photos
danny455v8 Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 ken i recon it could do 14s but you never know you might see 13s with 500 cfm like the man said heads are vittesse on yours so that helps
ASBO CAPRI Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 vittesse heads are the best ones to have. I would say 270 brake is feasble with vittesse heads and a good cam + u say its 3.9 with high compression which would help a lot especialy with torque. Don't know spec of crane 214 but i bet its better than anything kent or piper do. I wouldn't be supried if your pistons are pocketed for high lif cam. I would say with 270 brake i'd be suprised if it didn't run in the 13s a bit of nitrous and it would run 12s
