Stupid people made a mockery of these government petitions by campaigning for ludicrous suggestions, so that genuine public feeling is now overlooked by those in authority.

 

For example, I remember someone posting a link to a petition to get Jeremy Clarkson in number 10. We then wonder why these petitions never actually make a difference.
