Noodles Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Gonna be starting to fill and paint the rear arches weekend after next, is there any advice or extra matrials you can recommend before I start? I have a few bits, Red primer Grey primer Filler primer Some P38 is this any good? Ally 120 grit paper How do I go about cutting in the final colour? Where can I get joint compound Thank you
72mk1escort Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Hi Mate The filler you have is fine as is the paint but you need some finer grades of sand paper for example you need the following to make a nice job of it: 60 grit to knock the worst of the filler back 80 grit 120 180 240 320 400 600 800 1000 1200 This is used to wet flat down the primer before you put the top coat on. You start with the lowest and end up on 1000 before putting primer on this way you wont see any rubbing down marks in the top coat You will also need some things called tack rags to wipe the panel clean before you put any primer/top coat onto it.You will need to tack rag the surface before priming and then before the top coat. Another thing that would be useful is fine surface filler which is used to fill tiny pin holes that show up once its been primed this can be put on vry smoothly left for about 1 hour to dry and then flatted down with 1200 before you wet flat the primer. I hope this help you out mate If you need anymore info then maybe ricks how to guide (DIY Spray Job)will help you out. http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=49218
Rick Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 basic kit: rough paper. smooth paper. fine wet and dry etch primer is best stuff you can use cutting paste to finish annd then a finer grade paste to really buff it up if you think your not quite happy with a bit but am thinking il spray it anyway it might go under the paint... dont waste your time... thats my trick and it never works make sure it s perfect before you put paint to it, and keep your hands oil free
