rite i have just acquired myself a 2.8i capri, runs and drives on a D plate with the 6spoke alloys, LSD, recaro interior, all panels good, floor and chassis is gone but who cares, i paid £300 for it for all the stuff to put in my laser!

im not entirely sure on the best setup, i was thinking about using the 2.8i lump for now while i do a bit more to the pinto, cuz its got more out of the box. which is the best gearbox and axle (i know the 2.8i is LSD) but would it be worth putting the LSD in the 2.0 axle (its just been reconditioned)?

recaro interior is 100% going in, in favour of whats left of my ripped up laser interior, all the suspension, alloys and brakes r good.

also need a new door, wing and mirror on the laser which r good on this one,

so im a happy chappy.

so at the end of it all there will be a 2.8i bare rotten shell left and a 2.1 half built pinto with about 30k miles on it. depending on how i get on with the 2.8 there will be either a nice running 2.8i lump for sale or a fairly beefy pinto for sale.

wish me luck lol

Use the 2.0 ratio for diff,much better acceleration,better with a 1.6 though.

I'd go for the pinto over the 2.8 as thats very heavy and doesnt rev as good as a sweet pinto does, pinto will make more power with some mods.

Ford rated the 2.8 at 140,but in truth its nearer 125.

Use the billies from the 2.8i and fit them with -1" 200lb springs or go coilover conversion.

the 2.8i 5 speed is a pretty good box, just needs the input shaft cutting down about an inch to fit to a pinto.

its the box of choice to the escort boys.

cheers mate, im gona use the 2.8 for the time bieng while i get the pinto modded then i will go pinto :) thats whats in it now, and its got some mods but it needs head work and bigger carb/s.

so is there no potential for modding a 2.8?

also, does a 2.8 have a bigger master cylinder and/or servo and would it be an advantage? i already have 2.8i grooved and drilled discs, sport pads, caliper spacer kit and thats virtually eliminated brake fade and given slightly better stopping power, but i want to make the pedal a little more sensitive so i dont have to stand on it!

You can tune the 2.8i lump but to get serious power is expensive

For example i have one thats bored and stroked to 3.5L stage 3 heads and so on. I bought it second hand but it came with recipts for nearly 10k for the work done to it :lol:

:D like the sound of that!

i once asked someone, whats the best thing to do with a 2.8i and he sed bin it!, the best thing to say would have been, bin it unless you want to spend a hell of a lot of money!

because if you can get that sort of power from one, its not going anywhere near a bin.
